I don't think there is one spot across the line he didn't play including over the Nose, 3T, 5T, 6 or 7T, and even out in wide 9. There are several clips of him rushing from the outside and he looks pretty good to me from there overall. Shows good initial burst after the snap, bull rushes well, up and under move, speed rush, etc. Pretty darn good for someone who has mostly been inside. I don't think there's any question he's our guy unless we get some sucker team to trade up with us.
Objectively, he's not so hot in double teams but who cares, it frees others up. He can stunt out of holes leaving big holes. He's far far more effective inside. Often times he blows up field AA-style and completely leaves a gaping hole. He has nice closing speed and hustle. Took a few plays off. He lines up a lot at LDE with the usual inside rush. I like that his feel gets better as the game progresses and he gets better as the game goes on. Dude is unblockable inside. Truly. You can toggle him between LDE/5T and RDT/3T but I'll tell you what, I'd put him at 3T and just say, "Here is your gap...go eff someone up. Put the fear of God in them."
We'll agree to disagree on some of the assessment but I think we can agree that he's a valuable player overall and brings even more value in sub packages which is the primary D these days.

Was that a Trubisky highlite Clip?
I watched it and saw a QB with NFL ready pocket awareness. It was amazing. I saw Thomas make a play or 2 but most times he was double teamed or ran out of the play. I didn't see one thing from that via that makes me think Thomas is worthy of the 2nd pick. Very little explosiveness. I wasn't impressed. He looked slow off the ball.
I did come out thinking that Trubisky is damn good though.

I'm still on the Trubisky bandwagon, but if we pass, this guy is more than worthy of being the #2 pick and I'll be thrilled to have him on our team.

Damn. Great clip of both players. Actually I was impressed by both here. Trubisky made fantastic and NFL ready passes and that comeback with less than 2 minutes left was freaking great! All him too except and that accuracy was money! Negative was that he threw two stupid interceptions too throughout the game.
Thomas was double team a lot and when he wasn't he made Trubisky scramble the whole time. Noticed how they didn't run the ball AT ALL through Thomas' side. Great sacks as well and especially to win the game and prevent Trubisky pass for a 2 point conversion. I didn't like how he finished plays sometimes.
Extremely impressive by both players IMO. I think they will be great picks. Just don't know who deserves the #2 for me yet.

He was dropping dimes.
Yeah outside of two INTs (one horrible one) I though Mitchell had a great game...Solomon was a one man wrecking matchine that game. He was just getting better as the season went on and showed up in both their bowl games.
FYI love the gif lol

Lol right I'm sorry clearly young is just hating...he was constantly breaking down that OL and pushing Mitch off his reads and out of the pocket. They weren't running in between the tackles at all. He was running stunts, edge rushing, eating up blockers, and was quick to diagnose those dump offs to the RBs. Mitch was never comfortable back there, Mitch had 4 INTs all yr coming into that game and gave up two.

I don't understand how anyone can watch that NC/Stanford tape and not come away impressed with Thomas lol.
He pretty much was the reason Stanford won that game.

not only is he a stud player, but he's got the leadership skills this team needs.

per Gil Brandt:
"He's what I call a 'Two,'" Brandt said. "A 'Two' means he's not only a great football player, he's a tremendous person off the field -- a great character person. In this draft, if we had one person that some day may be a senator of the United States, it'll be this guy."

That game is the most dominate you'll see out of any college d linemen.
Also Trubisky is the best prospect at QB for a reason.

I completely agree with you on Thomas. I saw numerous examples of him missing tackles, giving up on a play a tad too early, watching teammates tackle a dude, etc. I didn't really see the instinct and fire I would expect from a DL pick that high. This is just one example of his tape, but I wasn't super impressed.

Mike Mayock-"The best tape I've seen of a defensive player all year."
People are trying too hard to rip on Thomas. He was absolutely dominant that game and kept chasing down a QB that made it a habit of escaping pass rushers all year.
