It's good to meet him and know he's not a total jackass. That's one of the whole points of private meetings. Everything I heard sounds like he's a great guy but still absolutely important to have that meeting.

Lynch can just ask his former teammate about all he needs to know.

You can't put AA and Buckner on the same side in sub. Talk about having zero lateral speed on one side.

If I am a OC, guess what side I am scheming to attack with end arounds, zone reads, flys, sweeps, off-tackle runs, etc? The side with the two lumbering giants.

Why not? Those twin towers would knock down a ton of passes. Those two side by side with arms up in the qbs face? Sounds leathal to me. You have to double one of them and that should free up a LB to roam free. With our new penetrating style, I expect us to be in the backfield often with the addition of Thomas.

"Shanahan, the 49ers' first-year coach, agreed that Thomas indeed could be an edge rusher — or the "Leo" — in his defensive system.

"I believe so," Shanahan said. "He can line up inside anywhere he wants. But I'm not done with my research yet.""

What do you mean why not? It's explained in the post...

Can you imagine Buckner or Armstead having to play the mesh point on a Russel Wilson zone read? Lol

They might see if he attends the local pro day, would give them another insight into how much he wants to come

Cam misspoke there. The LEO isn't the only edge rusher in the defense.

Plenty of lateral speed. We are talking about young guys here. Lets not be mellow dramatic like they are dragging around a ball and chain. Mind you, quickness is more important than "speed" when discussing lineman.

Yeah, they're just 300 lbs, 6'8" players with 5 second 40s, 4.5 short shuttles and 7.5 3 cones

yup, plenty of speed at that corner....

This isn't madden. There's a reason most edge players are about 40 lbs lighter. Those are terrible numbers if that's what you intend to keep on the edge. I am exploiting that all day if I am an OC. I want to see AA/Buckner play the mesh point on a Russel Wilson zone read or defend to the flat on a Tavon Austin fly sweep. Good luck.

Smh, you make it sound so easy.how can both play the edge? I thought only one person was to set an edge? Now you have Buckner abandoning the middle and running outside?

Did you read my post? Why would anyone set an edge on zone read or a fly sweep? Lmao

Anyways, if we do draft Thomas, I hope we ship Armstead out. That would resolve a lot of these issues and allow us to keep a true edge player next to Thomas and Buckner.

Projection-based prospect with elite size and the traits to become a dominant run-stuffing defensive end in an odd front. Armstead has the explosiveness off the snap and in his jarring punch to gain early advantages and control offensive linemen. Armstead is a fast riser but is still very raw. He will need patience and coaching and must become a more effective pass rusher at some point.[b]

Someone else also believes he can set the edge in the run game too.

Defensive end in an odd front has nothing to do with setting an edge. That profile is aluding to a 5T role, not an edge player.

You've got a lot to learn.

I think on run downs Buck/AA are playing LE and RDT on run downs and they're both inside on pass downs with more speed edge rushers on the outside.
