that is why they need to draft Ricky Stanzi

I agree. If Stanzi was drafted and somehow made the starter, we'd probably go 3-13, which is probably good enough to be the #1 or #2 overall pick. Imagine Luck as our starter and Stanzi as our #2 back up, McElroy as our 3rd stringer.

One of those QB's has to be the one.

I was referring to getting as close to the sure thing as they can get. I think that Stanzi will be the best QB in this draft class. But I'm just a fan what do I know.....no really what do I know?

He just maybe, but I doubt it in his rookie year. If I'm wrong, I'll nominate you or give you the title of Draft Guru under your screen name. Can I make that happen maybe not, but I'll try.

he would have to start during his rookie season and I doubt that Harbaugh would do that. Overall I have a feeling he will be the best QB in this draft class. Hell he just might end up starting, you never know. Stanzi>>>Carr

You might as well just refrain from leaving comments if all you have to say is "He sucks!" without giving a reason as to why you think that way. If you don't like a prospect, don't click on the thread.

If you don't know the reasons why people don't like him by now, you must not have read many posts in this thread.

I know some reasons, but when people just enter a thread and posts "HE SUCKS!" that's not really giving a reason, is it?

Plus, opinions may have changed from the start of the season to his Pro Day. I've posted in this thread numerous times and have debated with others numerous times and I can tell you that my opinion of Jake Lockers has gone back and forth.

Fair enough.

People don't want a RB that can't run and they don't want a WR that can't catch, but because Locker is athletic, it's alright to draft him even though he can't throw the ball accurately or operate under pressure in the pocket? That's pretty an NFL QB's main purpose in life.

I don't get it. I'm not saying he's not draftable, but I think it's just as likely that in about 3 years Jake will be pitching in the minors rather than starting in the NFL.

Tyrod Taylor looked better than Locker this year, but no one is calling him a 1st rounder. Taylor is more accurate and a far better athlete as well. Taylor is my sleeper pick for us, so I had to throw him out there.

It's just hard for some of us to grasp a high grade on Locker. I can't remember a QB that's had such varying opinions of where everyone thought he should be drafted.

I know a lot of evaluations is what the player has done in college, but I like to look at it as how easily he can get molded into a system, the WCO system specifically. By watching the Senior Bowl, Combine, and his Pro Day, he has shown vast improvement in his footwork, especially planting his foot and leading his front foot towards his receiver's position. By fixing his footwork, his accuracy has looked much better in the pocket. It'll probably be a different story when there's a pass rush he has to worry about, but in the Senior Bowl, he couldn't even throw two accurate passes in a row.

I guess I'm putting a lot in his potential. When he moves out of the pocket, he makes some unbelievable throws. However, I do understand he is a project and will need some time to develop. Harbaugh is one of coaches I trust in developing a talent like Locker.

No proper coaching, or being thrust in way too early could severely damage Jake,

hmmm you mean like how we "developed" Alex Smith?

Precisely.

I think there's a huge difference in developing a QB under Nolan/Singletary regime and Harbaugh's regime.

In all fairness, if Alex Smith had Jim Harbaugh to develop him these past 6 years instead of Mike Nolan/Singletary and their revolving band of OCs, Smith might have developed much differently. He probably wouldn't have turned in to a GREAT QB because I don't believe he has that level of skill, but he might have turned into a Matt Schaub/Matt Cassell-type (very serviceable and productive).

Let's just say I think most of us could guess with a fair amount of certainty that we wouldn't have been hearing any of this "booing" nonsense that we had last season, nor would we be having to draft another QB early right now.

I am reading what he is saying but I do not see how pointing out the completition percentages of a hall of famer and a prospect coming out of college have any correlation when you are not taking into account the factors that may have accounted for their inconsistencies. Montana did not rely on his physical gifts because he lacked them, Locker uses them to make up for his inaccuracy. I think that is the worry.

We're comparing Joe's college completion percentage to Locker's college completion percentage, not Joe's Hall of Fame, NFL numbers. The reason we bring this up is because everyone continues to complain about Locker's completion percentage in college. However, his physical makeup, leadership abilities, and will to get better is a great trait to have for someone like Harbaugh to coach up. No one knew that Joe Montana was gonna become a Hall of Fame QB, but Bill Walsh molded him into one. Harbaugh can possibly do so with Locker and any QB in this draft. This is what we're saying.

I understand that but you must also take into account other factors for their low completion percentages in college. From what I've seen of Locker, I am not impressed. I think he has bust written all over him and if Harbaugh picks him up, then I will roll with it because he obviously knows better than any of us. My only point was that you cannot compare completion rates of two quarterbacks who came from different eras and different circumstances.

Fair enough. I just use it to prove that with proper coaching in the NFL, a player can getter their accuracy and completion percentage.

On the whole, I with agree with this sentiment as being a possibility. With the qualification that the Niners, if they had their wits about them, might actually have already selected (or traded for) another QB in a prior year to groom as a possible "elite" solution. You don't stop looking until you actually find "the guy". I know that a lot of teams don't do this, but then I happen to believe that most teams are poorly run. And the Niners would have been no exception if McClougan had been the GM. Harbaugh or no Harbaugh.

Now its Baalke/Harbaugh's turn and the jury is out. IMO even if there wasn't the lockout and they resigned Alex (which I believe they will), they would still be looking to draft a QB. At least I would hope so. That is tantamount to saying: We can make you, Alex, a serviceable QB, but the search for the real franchise QB goes on.
Pretty good episode of "Everything to Prove" on NFL.COM.

The first part of the video shows Jake Locker working out with Ken O'Brien.

Everything to Prove: Episode 8
I'm guessing Miami has a gigantic target on him, but he might not make it past the Titans, Skins or Vikes. He is going to go much earlier than people expect.

I agree. I'm predicting that he goes to the Vikings. His arm might remind them of a younger Favre.

But pairing him up back there with AP is pretty good too.
I would love to have Locker in the 2nd, but no way he makes it there.

Trust me nobody will touch this dude before the 3rd round and even that is a mistake.
