We don't have any chance of getting that guy at all. We already won too many games. And he may not even come out.

He's probably coming out, and there is such a thing as a trade-up.

1) The team having the #1 pick may not want to trade down. They may want to keep him.

2) If they are open to trades you will be competing against 4 or 5 other teams that "must get him."

The ransom will be real high.

We aren't getting him period. Dream on.

Most teams in the top 10 already have young quarterbacks, so the price for us to trade up is much cheaper.

Like who? Show me. Which are the Peyton Manning / Phillip Rivers / Drew Brees types picking in the top ten?

Carolina - Clausen, lol
Cincinnati - Palmer, maybe they want to start from scratch though
Detroit - Stafford, definitely would not pick Luck
Buffalo - Fitzpatrick, thinking they pass on Luck for him is wishful thinking imo
Arizona - needs a qb
San Francisco - needs a qb
Cleveland - is McCoy a franchise qb?
Dallas (tie) - Romo, they have other needs to address
Minnesota (tie) - Do they give T.Jackson the reigns?
Denver (tie) - Lord Tebow

There is tons of teams in there looking for QB's. And Cleveland and Minnesota don't pass on a QB.

Why would Cleveland not ride out McCoy???

Sure buddy. They would rather have Colt McCoy if they get a shot at Andrew Luck.

McCoy's rookie QB rating is 85.3 and as a starter he's notched consecutive wins against the Saints and Patriots. Would they really throw him totally under the bus for Luck? Keep in mind they'd be passing on basically the top player at any other position in the draft in order to saddle themselves with an enormous QB controversy.

Amen -- watch what his QB rating does when they draft AJ Green to throw to. By the way, Walterfootball is very confident that McCoy is a franchise guy for Clevelend and that they'll be taking Green.

Tell my why Cleveland would take another QB, after getting great play out of a rookie McCoy?

Orton will approach 5,000 yards in passing this year, and Tebow is behind him. I don't care who coaches, there will be no QB taken.

Your problem, as with others, is that they do not look at comparative needs, jsut absolute needs.

cincinatti, for example, has a mild need for a new QB, but a ton of other needs. Carolina has needs all over the field and just drafted a QB. the Cupboard is more empty in Buffalo than anywhere else.
Your problem, as with others, is that you are looking at the situation thru red & gold colored glasses. Ask yourself a question if the Niners had any of the QB's that you are trying to justify passing on Luck for (McCoy, Palmer, Orton, Fitzpatrick, Clausen) would you be happy with that decision? If you answer yes to that question thank God you are not running this team.
Yes -- if Alex Smith had a QB rating of 85 and won two games on the road -- one vs. the defending SB champs -- I would pass on Luck.

If you would pass on Luck for McCoy, Palmer, Orton, Fitzpatrick, or Clausen then you are certifiably insane!!! Mind you we are not talking about just any QB prospect we are talking about a prospect who is being put in the Elway/Peyton Manning class of QB's. You do not pass on that type of player for the guys you are trying to justify passing on him for.

Cleveland and Minnesota are playing themselves out of the sweepstakes. I think Arizona will beat us twice, knocking them out of the sweepstakes too. Hopefully Detroit, Buffalo and Cincy can pick up a few cheap wins. and Pray to god that Carolina is convinced that Clausen is the man.

f**k it. Lets just trade up, even if it means getting raped in the deal.

I agree with you, although, I dont think Washington would draft a QB in the first round because of McNabb's contract. I think they grab one in the 2nd or 3rd and try to groom him behind McNabb.

Original reports of McNabb's contract were proven to be false the Redskins could cut him before the start of next season & owe him nothing, the contract is basically a series of 1 yr. deals.

this mcnabb isnt producing and they are rumprs of him being cut which is why i put the redskins in there and i think they would only owe him 4 million dollars too (could be wrong on that but around that much)

I wouldn't be shocked if Carolina stuck with Clausen and traded back. They could set themselves up for a killer draft that way, and if they believe in Clausen that's probably the fastest way to turn things around. It would be a crazy bidding war, which could be real interesting.
Why did Steve Johnson have to drop that pass...

I'm pretty sure Cinci would pick Luck, Palmer probably won't be there after this year.

i would cry if we got both of these guys somehow in the offseason.
if we get Harbaugh i hope he will try to do a similar trade the jets did to get sanchez.

Quote:
#5: Cleveland → New York Jets (D). Cleveland traded its first-round selection (5th overall, used to select Mark Sanchez) to the Jets for the Jets' first- and second-round selections (17th overall, traded to Tampa Bay, who selected Josh Freeman; and 52nd overall, used to select David Veikune), Kenyon Coleman, Brett Ratliff, and Abram Elam.

Bills are a yes. Bills GM Buddy Nix has already been to Stanford to scout Luck.

Dallas is a maybe. Don't put it past Jerry Jones to trade Romo in his attempt to move up to #1 for Andrew Luck or even sitting pretty to take Ryan Mallett.
