6'1" 263? Maybe an inch or two shorter then you'd like but personally, I'd rather have them in this range as the lower man wins in this game esp. the leverage game and what is required of a 3-4 OLB.

As an example, Manny is 6'6" and while he's gotten much better, it's hard to get under blocks and bull rush OT's at that height (and frame) - it's great for special teams and if he had good pass rush skills and defending the pass in coverage but so far, it seems to have worked against him a little bit, IMO.

I guess the real issue isn't so much hieght, but arm length. Without long arms it might be hard to get through some of these knuckle draggin OTs.

They could possibly sign La boy to back up Haralson and Brooks if that was the case.

Im a big fan of Manny, but thinking about what player has good trade value and may still be expendable, he comes to mind
I'd be ok with. Haralson/ Brooks/Briggs (not Lance) lol, and Laboy and/or a draft pick as our stable of OLB's

He does seem best suited as a 4-3 OLB

Maybe Niner brass told him they may use him as trade bait and try to trade him to a 4-3 team, which could be a win/win situation for both sides

Just pure speculation though,
he may have had a vacation or somthing planned before he knew about the the early OTA's, its probably nothing

so he was out all last year with injury?

wow Arizona gave him $7.5 million guaranteed when they signed him in 08 lol
I hope he is signed, but most importantly I hope he is healthy and able to contribute, having some quality depth at OLB would provide a steady pass rush of fresh bodies rushing the QB with tenacity for all 4 qtrs

This way we can focus more on improving the offensive line and secondary with the first 4 picks, and we still have Briggs who may come to camp and shine

sounded like he was pretty solid before injured I'm all for adding depth on the cheap

To me thats another bonus in signing him, he got his money from the Cards already and more than likely wants to play for coach singletary ...I know I sure the hell would love to play for a legend

There have been many here on the Zone that have defined him as a true OLB in a 4-3. He would have some value, but not a first for sure. 2nd or 3rd maybe, but that would be good in this draft.

Who would want Manny especially when he's a UFA next year I think? LaBoy would be a nice addition if he left or if he stays. The fact is that we need that consistent rotation to provide fresher legs in the fourth qtr. He would be a welcome resource in that regard.

I agree, he would be a great addition if healthy. Proven vet with a good motor and would allow us to explore more options with the defense by getting more pass rushers on the field in 3rd and long situations. Haralson/mcdonald/smith/lawson with Brooks and Laboy blitzing while dropping everyone else back sounds like a good time to me.

Classic! It's cool you bring this up though b/c while this is a scouting quality, I can't ever say I've heard of someone not making the team b/c their arms are too short and there, can't disengage OT's. It is adventageous to have long arms esp. up close to the LOS to knock down passes but then again, how many has Manny knocked down? It's more timing and being in position and against OT's, leverage, strength and technique as well.
