If he does go to Ari. This can really bite us in the @$$. Especially if Alex doesn't pan out.
If McNabb or Philly backup Kolby go to AZ and the Cardinals make alot of noise in the post season, I will seriously freak out and lose all faith in this undermanned front office.

Where is this huge contract coming from? Have you seen what going on, there are QB that are career 3rd stringers getting alot of money and teams are also giving up draft choices for them. I would be upset if we gave San Diego a 3rd the paid a ton of money for a guy that looks like maybe he'll be good. Someone also mentioned that the 9ers went after Warner because it served 2 purposes. This move would serve 3 or 4. He doesn't go to AZ and kill us twice a year, the 9ers offence improves by leaps and bounds. The 9ers can finally cut ties with Alex Smith. McNabb can mentor Nate Davis. All of this and we don't have to morgage the future or break the bank.

i don't give a f**k what people will say here but the fact is that we needed to shore up the safety position for sure. lewis imo is done. thanks, but he's injury prone too much. A. Rolle would've been perfect. HE's come into a zone at S & is a playmaker. PLAYMAKER. big fkn deal u pay 1 plyr some big bucks. A young talented plyr, a play maker, a plyr from the nfc west? that's awin win to me. s**t.

if i'm the vikings and come july favre says he is retiring for real, then yeah, i give philly my 2nd for mcnabb, heck i give my first even...the vikings are a team on the cusp of the superbowl. in that scenario, you try to keep the status quo going on as much as possible. you got the rest of the team, you just dont need to take that hit by having to go with taveres jackson.
the niners are nowhere close to that situation and because of that, it makes no sense what so ever to trade for mcnabb. alex is not the answer nor will he ever be but it doesnt mean you mortgage future starters or depth via intelligent draft picks for someone who is really, really good but not great enuf to put you over the top. for some teams out there, mcnabb may be the tipping point. for us, no way we have the rest of the team that makes trading valuable picks away that would make a move for mcnabb worth it. its very exciting that people see us as a 'its our division to lose' team but keep in mind that statment is made more because of the lack of respect for the nfc west then respect for it.
it would be fun to have mcnabb, we would be a substancial amount better with him then with alex for a year but in the end, that line of commitment will not amount to success in the playoffs and in the end, will hamper any long term development of trying to build a team that can contend for the big game.
there is a bottom line of winning a superbowl. while trading picks for mcnabb gets us closer then alex would for a year, in the long term, that trade hampers our ability to make a legit shot at the trophy any time soon....
end of the day, the way i see alex, carr or whoever else, they are placeholders for a year or two until you can manufacture a situation to get into a position to land a real solution. in the meantime, you try to fill as many other holes as you can...if this was a situation of getting a mcnabb at kolb's age, then yeah, thats the one you jump on. while it looks like i was way off on it, i thought thats what the cutler scenario was last year, or the cassell thing...opportunities to try to answer your qb needs are few and far between but that said, mcnabb isnt one of these. atleast not at the price that philly is demanding.

I disagree with the first argument because the defensive is strong enough to make some noise in the playoffs, maybe a better safety but the defense is pretty damn good. The offense has been the problem for a long time now. They can't sustain drives, get first downs or even just resemble an NFL offense.
If this team as it sits had a Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Donavan McNabb, etc. they would be able to contend in the NFC against the best of them. If I am not mistaken we were a top 10 defense last year or close to it. The team needs an offensive leader.

ill admit i didnt read the whole post as in all the pages but my answer was given in the sense of is mcnabb is the last piece to our puzzle. to that end, while i think for some teams he may be like the vikes, he is not that for us. i see drew brees and tom brady in a different light then i see mcnabb. i hate terrell owens but i do believe there is some truth in his complaints against mcnabb.
all that said, i will not spit and piss vinegar if we made a move for him, i can also see it work as well. i guess i just get and understand why we arent going for him.
for me, i have such a negative opinion of our o-line, frankly i want both 1st round picks to go for o-line talent and see what the market has available in 2011 as far as qb goes. staley is severely overrated, i dont think we have any legit tackles on the roster...

I'm not saying Break the Bank, or send all of our draft picks. I'd be satisfied if Jed or Mike said "We tried but what they wanted was ridiculous."
Why would we spend abunch of money onf FREE AGENTS when we needs to Resign key player coming up like 1. Patrick Willis 2. Vernon Davis 3. Dashon Goldson just 2 name afew
Since the other thread got locked (without you receiving a warning for calling me an idiot

) I guess I'll have to post my reply here.

1. Patrick Willis
2. Vernon Davis
3. Dashon Goldson
4. Maybe Manny Lawson if we can afford it.
So just remember what we are building here we got alot of special players we need to keep..
All we do is re-sign, re-s9gn and re-sign. Everyone loves these deals every year because we are keeping these players and they think it's a cap friendly deal because their front loaded and cap friendly at the end. Which would be all good and fine if they actually got to the end of these deals. Keep giving these players front loaded deals and re-signing before the cap friendly parts kicks in isn't really helping a whole heck of a lot.
Then you run the risk of re-signing players that can be replaced earlier than you need to. Yes Patrick Willis is an obvious re-sign but he's really tthe only one on the whole team. You could make a case for Staley. But they are the only 2 IMO that can't wit to start negotiations during the last season of their contracts.
your an idiot staley has already been signed through 2017... wut about dashon goldson and vernon davis? expendable????
I know Staley had already been resigned. My point was they are the only 2 players that can be argued should be resigned before we enter the season of their final contract. Everyone else we can wait on. Including Vernon and especially Goldson.
Re-signing our players early takes away 1 to 2 key free agents we could sign every year. With those free agents possibly being upgrades over some of the dudes we eventually re-sign.

Apparently you guys don't understand. Did you guys misinterpret the whole thing? Not once did I say make Antrelle Rolle the highest paid safety in league history. This was a weak@$$ free agency. If your saying we can only have McNabb by overpaying, then I ask you this. What draft pick would you give to feel like you have a really damn good chance to get to the NFC Championship or possibly superbowl?
Because as I see it know it seems like we have a 50/50 chance to make the playoffs.
look, you mentioned something about having another QB as our starter, other than Alex....that is enough to have some go crazy over here
....and basically disregard any point you are trying to make with the rest of your post.
What point is he trying to make? The name of the thread is "why do the niners sit and watch the league get better" then when he is asked what teams have gotten better he has no answer and responds with even more gibberish
JETS VIKES PATRIOTS CHARGERS that enough for ya?
The only team that got better of the four you mentioned is prob the Jets because they signed Cromartie to help Reeves.. Other then that the three other teams haven't really done anything...
The Broncos got Quinn!!! CHAMPIONSHIP!

No the Vikings obviously got better by losing Favre and Chester Taylor.
Chargers too by losing Cromartie, LT, and Jamal Williams.

I hate these type of posts, i dont like the idea of wasting money on players in this FA market, when half the players available and maybe a 3rd are average at the best.
Id rather not waste picks on McNabb and build the team thru the draft and get better with each pick.
McNabb is a quick fix and not a long term answer, he is 33 and on the downside of his career. Rather let Alex and David Carr try and take us, now of course its a debate to have, i like both, not sure either is the answer. But rather we give our guys a chance.
