how about we give alex smith at least 1 offseason to practice with his WR and be in the same system 2 seasons in a row before we replace him

No... I prefer to give Davis a shot if Alex does not improve

We need a veteran in there that can provide serious competition to alex. We can't go soft into next season riding blind and relying on alex to figure it out.

I second that! And it doesn't have to be a guy that's going to be with us for 4 or 5 years...Just someone to compete with Alex and would be a good fill in for 1 or 2 seasons. I still don't want to rush Nate yet...

Bringing in a veteran most likely means Shaun Hill would be the odd man out.

Scout.com's Adam Caplan predicts that Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb will get traded or sign an extension this offseason.
With the Eagles enjoying a Super Bowl window, Donovan McNabb figures to remain the starter again next season. Both players' contracts are up after the 2010 season, so the Eagles could extend Kolb as high-end insurance or part with him if a desperate team knocks their socks off with a strong offer. It would likely take a multiple early-round package similar to the Texans' Matt Schaub deal to land Kolb.

That guy, go get that guy. Course I've said this 400 times Jason Campbell is a better option then anything we got.

True, but who do you think would be a good veteran for our team?? I'd much rather stick with Hill, unless we manage to pick up Hasselbeck, don't want Bulger, don't like his decision making lately. Who else is out there, Derek Anderson, nah, much rather just draft a QB. Don't want any Kyle Bollers, Joey Harrington's or any other washed up vets coming here.
Actually, I think the only QB right now I would trade for is Matt Moore, but I doubt the Panthers let him walk.

I say a vet QB would be best. Someone that can at least teach alex something or provides a quality backup. I don't know if there is any real backups that could be a better #2 than Hill...

what is wrong with you? do you even watch football? BOTH of those QB's make Alex Smith look like Joe Montana.
They all look the same to me.

I know people probably don't like him but what about Troy Smith? He wouldn't be a distraction as far as Alex Smith getting prepaid to be the starter next year but he could definitely give Alex a real push because he can pass the ball. IMO he could be the best back up in the league at this time.

I'd rather we didn't add someone just to compete with Alex for competition's sake. Either pick up a guy like McNabb with the 2nd or hold on to it. Matt Moore? Maybe. No Troy Smith, no Brady Quinn, no one we have to give up anything for that won't be a significant upgrade at the position.
