Depends on what QB is on the block (in other words, who is available) and what QB is there when we pick.

Well I'd say trade for one but you don't hear about any top notch QBs upset with their teams. And look at Culter, he sucks bad. Between his WRs quitting on routes and him trying to make plays every drive, he looks terrible. he make Kyle Orton look like, well like Jay Cutler

Naw Cutler is the same qb he just throws too many ints folks just like pass that b/c of his arm strength. The Broncos never won or did anything with Cutler but fold down the stretch partly due to his turnovers. Something he's doing in Chicago.

any qb you take in draft will likely take a few years to develop
how often does a good qb come available in free agency (drew brees comes along about as often as haley's comet)
niners could hope some young developing does a jay cutler and demands to be traded, but that is unlikely
or they can build around alex smith----i would maintain that smith has shown real flashes of being very good (the 1st td pass to jason hill for example), and the Niners best course would be to develop sone olineman and receivers to maximize his chances
pats guard logan mankins in free agency, damian williams usc wr (fast) and rutgers ot anthony davis in rd 1 would be a nice plan

Who would want to sign with the niners? Kurt Warner turned us down while Arizona disrespected him. No one wants to come to a team that has been sub-par for the last 6-7 years. You could try to trade for someone else. But last year there were big names like Cutler on the block and the niners wouldn't even consider pulling the trigger. We could look out there in free agency but do you really want another castoff. The one guy who could be available and probably has the most upside is probably Alex. We would be much better off drafting a QB.
