There were more games last year where we scored less than 21 points.
And? This year the difference has been that they've beaten the crap out of poor teams for the most part. Look at the Giants game, both Seahawks game, the Vikings game, even against the Saints the defense ended up scoring about half the points.
The offense needs to be ABLE to carry the team when the defense isn't up to par.....this offense hasn't shown anything close to being capable of that.

Playcalling hasn't changed much either, its been consistently mediocre. There's a lot of stuff that hasn't gone right with this offense.

Calm yourselves brethren. We are not debating eternal hellfire and damnation against infinite bliss in the warm glow of The Almighty.
Check it.
After last season, I was all like... damn! This team is for real, yo! 13 and mother f**kin' 3 with no offseason!
I was well pleased. Jim Harbaugh and Trent Baalke had quite thoroughly exceeded my already lofty expectations. I felt the season to be a smashing success.
Then I knew... the bar had been raised. The only way to improve would be to bring home #6.
So, duh... I totally expected a Super Bowl!
However, just because I think the team should not be happy with anything less, it doesn't mean that I don't realize that s**t happens. If they fall short, I will be disappointed, but that doesn't mean I can't look back and see the good things and be happy about them. Hell, I'm already happy with this season.
Point being... this isn't a mutually exclusive deal here.
Chill and enjoy the ride.

Well my thought was..... We will NEVER (or would've never) won a superbowl with Alex Smith. On the flip side, i think THIS YEAR we may have possibly been able to reach championship game again. With Kaep as QB I expected us to win 1 playoff game. MAYBE two. With us having a very legitimate chance next year and beyond.
So to me, no the season won't be a bust it will be what i realistically expected.

im just saying they are better than last year as far as rushing and passing, and 3rd downs.
Last year our run was thanks to one of the best defenses of all time.
this offense is better. Much better? not so much. But it did help to drop 41 points on the Pats. I dont se that happening last year

Jeez Louise! 70% call the season a bust if we don't win the Super Bowl?
You people are hard to please!
I'm satisfied with the season as is. I'll be very disappointed when and if we lose in the playoffs, but I won't consider the season to "be a bust."
That is reserved for those God Awful years before Harbaugh arrived.
You peeps need to chill a little. 4-12 is a "bust." There are fans all over the NFL that would KILL for a 10-4-1 mark like we have.

A failure yes.
A bust would've been losing the division and missing the playoffs.

well thanks for writing and keeping it civil
It is a little funny tho. 225+ looks in the thread, 33 votes, and 70-30% that this season is a bust if we don't win the SB. not too bad so far fellas

Just like during our dynasty years... Anything less than winning the Lombardi trophy is a failure!

Everyone will see this their own way. It fascinates me that some can't just sit back and accept that vs trying to force their way of thinking on others.
For me? It is SB or bust... but that doesn't mean I won't have fun enjoying the ride... doesn't mean I won't take some measure of satisfaction over being one of the better teams in the league.

After 8 years of losing I have changed my opinion on what a successful season is. A winning record and making it to the playoffs is now a successful season for me. A super bowl win is a cherry on top that only one team can claim.
Totally agree.
