As much as Akers scares me, I find it difficult to bring in a free agent kicker who probably hasn't played most or all of the season, for the playoffs.

It's not like Akers misses are all over the place.
They all leak to his left (or from the TV view to the right)

50-40 yard range punt it.
40-20 yard range go for it on 4th dn
< 20 send in Akers on 4d down only if the coaches coin toss is heads (if tails, fake FG).
