Not really, this one has a pretty definitive answer... If you're a fan of a football team, not fantasy football, stats don't mean a thing.

For those individuals that say this thread is pointless, i'll just say, meaningless banter instead of answering the question is pointless. After last season, without naming too many zoners, sooo many of us talked about stats like crazy. I noticed some in the zone, like to troll when something doesnt meet their approval, but when something is valid, or someone asks for a valid explanation on why they feel the way they do, they just hide behind the past of they suck, or they are a diva, etc. And all that is well and good, but then make sure you add some substance to at least make a thought out statement.
Its such a pointless question that both matt's, nfl.com, and espn, all talk about stats and wins. Thats why yesterday Alex was asked the question about stats. Even asked about stats i think before the new orleans game, in which he replied i care less about stats, i want to outscore him.
So overall it's not a pointless question because there are zoners now that are still talking and focusing on stats and talking less about wins, as well as reporters asking players the same questions.
And even tho, it may or may not have been a shot. I agreed with Smith when he said Cam threw for 4000yds, and what 4 more Td's than Smith and 12 more int's that led to a 6-10 record. So while Cam was a rookie, it did speak volumes, and say that just because u have tons of yardage in a game, if you lose, then who cares. I agree with many that I love great stats, but the bigger thing is winning. If 1.5td's a game gets us to the playoffs again, lol. then so be it.

But you need stats to win a game
The Title should read : What's more important to you? Stats or Wins

To this day I find it amazing there were literally people in here arguing to the death over Smith's supposed weak stats and any others they could find.
Stats are for 6 year olds and football card collectors.
I'll take one yard passing per game by Smith and a 13-3 record any year for the rest of my life over 10,000 yards a game and a 3-13 record.
If you're not six years old or playing with football cards and you still don't get it you are surely smoking crack, smoking meth, and don't belong having a drivers license or reproducing. So please, if you're one of those people, for the good of your community, go see a mental health specialist.

You don't need specific stats though! The point is ANY stats can win a game. This is more of a knock to people who say you need 300+ to win a game when obviously you don't! You need stats but they don't have to be good by traditional standards is the point.

Well said! I don't like run oriented teams but if the 9ers dicided to use running more than passing to win another super bowl I'll just have to grin and take it!

I can't grin and take it with all these recievers and fire power. It would only be able to be pinned on the QB if we did not start shooting the ball down field. I think we are going to start scoring a lot of points in a relentles fashion.

It doesn't matter how one gets there as long as at the end of the day the scoreboard has a W.

It is all about running the score up and hurting every player possible along the way.
Oh wait sorry I forgot I am not Saints fan!

This is why I come to the 'Zone. For hard hitting, thought provoking questions.
I think the question that's even more difficult to answer is:
Which is more important to you?
Getting AIDS
Getting $10 million
Discuss.

I usually don't like teams running up scores but if the niners decide to make a point next year it will be fine with me. Would love to see some 55-0 games...particularly against the NYG, NO, and GB.
