He's bigger than Kyle Williams right? Because Kyle Williams saw the field and made some key blocks.

Hard to tell, both players are small. I will say that he does have good WR skills that you look for. Who knows, if he comes up big, then Baalke will look even better.

i think he'll be ok. baalke seems to know what hes doing.

Dude K Dub might be shorter but he's is naturally waaaay stronger than AJ. He's got some thickness to him, that's why he can block.
AJ looks like he'll have to put a lot of effort into getting stronger, not that he can't do it.

Kyle Williams got a lot thicker after another offseason with uweyama? After the NFCCG. Now AJ is with Kaep but I hope he gets a lot of time in with Uwe this summer also. If he does, he will be strong enough

Yes, but on the other hand, there are lots of receivers who have done horribly in their first season, but ended up very productive in the NFL.

Wes Welker had no catches in his first season. John Taylor had 3 catches for 157 yards and no TD's. For the list above, you have to go deeper into the numbers and evaluate how many receivers the teams those players went to had at the time and how many times they were running multiple receiver sets. Jerry Rice, for example, came to a Niners team that had an aging Freddie Solomon and Dwight Clark as the 1 and 2 receivers. And, Walsh was running multiple receiver sets all the time. Last season, by contrast, there were already four receivers in starting positions ahead of any rookie on a team that very seldom ran a set with more than 2 wideouts. They usually only suited up three wide receivers for games.

I posted this in the Randy Moss thread over in FA forum but it fits here as well.

In an interview with Cincinnati media, Bengals HC Marvin Lewis expressed rather strong criticism of the 49ers for playing Randy Moss ahead of AJ Jenkins last season. According to Lewis, not only did Moss contribute little to the 49er offense, it prevented Jenkins from getting the playing time necessary to develop.

Though it is somewhat in hindsight, I happen to agree with Lewis. As we have discussed in the Jenkins thread, either Baalke and the scouts did a lousy job of scouting Jenkins, or they grossly overestimated what Moss could bring to the team. Though Harbaugh often praised Moss for his "professionalism" and locker room presence, I believe that not using Jenkins at all was a high price to pay for Moss' "presence."

At this time last year it was clear that perhaps the greatest area of need was at WR, hence the moves to sign Moss and Manningham plus drafting Jenkins. Now with Moss moving toward retirement and Manningham a BIG question mark for next season, the 49ers still do not know what they have in Jenkins. Harbaugh's failure to include Jenkins at least enough to know whether he was a Baalke screw-up or not, puts the team in the same place they were at this time last season - they need to draft another WR to give them the speed (and height) they will need to compete against the better secondaries around the league, most particularly the Seattle secondary.

Agreed. Brandon Jacobs was in the same boat. If Hunter and Jacobs didn't get hurt we would have never seen LMJ on the field. Let's hope this trend of giving these older guys a higher spot on the depth chart just because they were good before doesn't continue.

We fans don't know what we have in Jenkins. I think the staff knows what they have. The rest of us won't be sure until September.
