Poll: Peyton or Alex?

Right. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he lead us to the NFC Championship game including 6 comeback victories with a shortened off-season which included "Camp Alex"? He deserves another year under Jim Harbaugh after 6 putrid offensive systems. I mean come on guys, Alex Smith is the stuff movies are made out of. He stuck it out and rewarded the fanbase. We owe it to the guy for allowing the Yorks to derail his career. What he has done just does not happen in the NFL. Idk, I just thought traits like perseverance were supposed to be rewarded.

He was rewarded with a huge fu*kin' contract before he had proved anything. Then he was offered 3 years at $24 million and that wasn't good enough for him. He got greedy. We don't OWE him anything. He can thank Harbaugh for getting his career back on track and helping him get rid of the bust label.

Truth be told, I'm incredibly pissed at him for not signing. If he had signed and had an even better year than last the FO would absolutely renegotiate and extend. Smith's best chance was staying with the 49ers. He would have a consecutive year in the same offense with a real off-season with a coaching staff that knows what it's doing. Knowing that he had the balls to turn down the offer and test the market?

This is his doing, not the 49ers. I don't even want to hear about loyalty.

Ideally I would rather keep Smith and see him develop into an elite quarterback. I just don't see that happening.

Well, that goes two ways. From Smith's perspective last year was the year he signed for a low deal in order to prove himself and get a longer deal.

The rookie contract is irrelevant, IMO - he got paid because they drafted him #1. Any other player they drafted #1 would have got a similar contract.

As of Saturday evening, Condon remained as Smith's representation, Condon confirmed in an email response to CSNBayArea.com. Any player who fires an agent must wait at least five days before hiring a replacement.Read more:

The deal offered is fair and on par with his performance last year. I don't see the issue. He thinks he deserves more. Let's see if he gets what he thinks he's worth from another team. I don't think it's gonna happen.

Smith for being such a bright guy became really stupid really fast.

The agent works for the player not the other way around. Condon didn't "tell" him to do anything. He suggested. He convinced him. Smith is a big boy, he can decide for himself what's best. Condon doesn't "demand" or force Smith do anything he doesn't want to do. Unless you think Alex lacks free will. Then I don't know what to tell you.

Who else does Condon work for....Manning

He could of played both sides on this rather easily. Alex isn't getting the phone calls, Condon is. Agents work teams over all the time, this is nothing new.

Why do you think he may be looking for another agent. This is there job, that's what they get paid to do.

90-24=66/5 = $13.2 per year less cap available for the other 52. That's 11 percent of the cap every year for the next 5. Can't tell me we won't be weaker personnel wise if five years. We will. Might have more Lombardi's though, but might also put out much of this $90M with few games played by Manning and a less experienced backup. We just don't know. Really, if the stated goal is to be a perennial winner and win 5 SB's in 13 years again like Eddie, this is not how it's done. If the goal is to win one and then turn to crap again, let's go for it.

And Condon did his job as far as I'm concerned. He got Alex a fair deal. If he thought he could get more then he was severely mistaken, but Alex gave the go ahead to push for more.

There's no defending Smith on this. He done goofed.

You're letting your anti-Alex bias get the best of you.

Any player, and that includes the immortal Peyton Manning, will follow the advice of their agent without fail. That is what they pay them to do.

If Alex thought Condon had his best interests at heart, then he would listen to Condon no matter what. If Condon abused the trust of his own client simply to further along another client, Condon will have huge issues to deal with going forward.

This is not a "big boy pants" situation. This is a problem of trust. Please distinguish from now on.

You really have to wonder whether the 49ers' management is not screwing up. Manning may very well go the Titans and Smith, Harbaugh's man, will have lost all faith and will not come back. The team will have plenty of cap room, but to sign which QB? I must say in addition that the whole process is not consistent with the values Harbaugh supposedly brought to the team last year. The "blue collar" approach is gone. By gambling on Manning, Harbaugh may very well lose the locker room as well. If Smith was not the right guy (and that is probably the case) why didn't Harbaugh make a fresh start last year ? Whatever you can think about the guy as a player, Smith is not treated fairly in this process and I hate to see Balke and Harbaugh acting like this.
LET ME PUT IT TO YOU GUYS LIKE THIS YOUR DATING AN AVERAGE GIRL FOR SEVEN YEARS, THE RELATIONSHIP HAS HAD ITS GOOD TIMES ITS BAD TIMES BUT NOW SHE WANTS A COMMITMENT SHE WANTS YOU FOR LIFE SHE WANTS THAT BIG DIAMOND RING . SO YOUR THINKING BOUT IT ,THINKIN THINGS HAVE BEEN GREAT BETWEEN US THE LAST YEAR AND HALF I CAN SEE MY SELF GIVING HER WHAT SHE WANTS.BUT THEN OUT OF NO WHERE YOUR DREAM GIRL COMES ALONG SHE STARTS FLIRTING WITH YOU GIVING LITTLE HINTS HERE AND THERE THAT SHE MIGHT WANT TO BE WITH YOU . SO YOU ALL TELLIN ME THAT YOU GUYS WOULDNT AT LEAST TAKE A SHOT AT YOUR DREAM GIRL AND STICK IT OUT WITH YOUR AVERAGE GIRL . I DONT KNOW BOUT YOU ALL BUT ID BE JUMPIN ALL OVER JESSICA ALBA OVER MY AVERAGE CUTE GIRL JUST LIKE THE NINERS ARE JUMPIN FOR A HALL OF FAME QB OVER A AVERAGE QB. HEY IF THINGS DONT WORK OUT WITH ME AND JESSICA THERES A MILLION MORE AVERAGE WOMEN OUT THERE I CAN FOOL AROUND WITH BUT HAVING A SHOT WITH A GIRL THATS ONE IN A MILLION I MAY NEVER GET THAT SHOT AGAIN

How soon do we forget. I vote for Smith. Yes I recognize that Manning is a better Qb and better for the team in the immediate because of his experience etc. I think that Smith in the right structure with consistency like he has now can be great. He is younger cheaper and he is loyal. Damn if Manning signs somewhere else and Smith still comes back to the 49ers. He has some guts because the this organization with its previous dysfunction has really done him over lol

Jeff are you on crack? Condon is not working both sides, Manning was getting all the calls. NOBODY was calling for ALEX SMITH. Alex should have signed the deal ASAP. NO ONE IS GOING TO OFFER ALEX SMITH $24 MIL DOLLARS EVER! Alex now has to wait and hope and PRAY that the 49ers don't sign Manning. Thats all he can do and he better hope the 49ers don't take that deal off the table. he put himself in a very bad position.....
