Why did we overpay so much for Brooks? And where does that leave us now?

SMH at everyone whining in this thread. We probably will sign all of our deals like this and have plenty for all our players + maybe Even a #1 WR

Here is the best part of that article
The 49ers would have an estimated $23 million of cap space available if, as expected, the 2012 NFL salary cap remains close to last year's $120.375 million figure.Read more: Brooks' deal counts $2.85 million against 2012 cap Tune to SportsNet Central at 6, 10:30 and midnight on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for more on this story

And it's likely that Spencer and Harlason will be cone giving us them roughly 6 mil more.
Anyone still freaking our about Brooks? I was fine with the way the deal was reported before, I'm even happier now.

I dont know how he does it
We give very good contracts to players that earn it (made Willis, Vernon highest paid players at their positions) and we still have good cap space

The zone has moved a LONG, LONG way to actually praise Paraag. A year ago this post would have been mocked endlessly.
I've never had an issue with Paraag. He was never the problem. He was just a conveinient excuse.

This is an awesome deal any way you look at it and a win-win for us and Brooks. The Franchise Tag for an OLB is 8.8 million this year. Can you imagine what it will be like in 2016/17? And yet, the most he'd count is 8.35 and he'd have to earn every single penny and be dedicated to the "team" which clearly, he already is. Great work, FO...yet again!

It's the best contract ever negotiated in NFL history.

Yeah, people use to rip him big time and I always thought he was a huge asset and was great at what he does. It was more so that they were mad because we never signed players and if we did we overpaid them but we had to. Also, it looked worse than it was because guys like Nate never got anywhere near there full contracts.

The meat of the contract is the guaranteed 17.5 mil. Risky for the team if Brooks end up not performing up to par. But other than that, it's a cap friendly deal especially going into this year with all the other FA to sign.
