I've gone through quite a few peaks and valleys with this team...I write a Niner column for NFL Draft Dog each week. I'm as big a fan as anyone out there...but, I'm also a realist. The current Niner leadership just isn't getting it done...Jed York's on the hook to make the changes needed to get this franchise heading in the right direction. After reading this article (link below) which was from Eddie D's mouth WRT to Jed, I feel better about what will most likely happen after the season's over. And, there's much work to be done...it starts with hiring a topflight GM, then the best, most experienced head coach available. I hope it's John Gruden, but we'll see. At any rate, Jed will have his hands full making some tough, but necessary decisions to right the Niner ship. A lot of us in this forum have been vocal about what needs to happen...and based on what Eddie D said about Jed, it'll get done. Many of us are simply tired of the losing...this once extremely proud franchise has sunk to new lows. No one's abandoning them...we just want our team to once again be one that's truly feared. Given where the franchise came from before falling into the dregs of the NFL, that's not too much to ask for.

just leave
People here seem to mistake any criticism toward the team for hate. Although some of us go overboard from time to time, I'd like to think it's because we all care about the team.

Yeah this site and the douche bags here pretty much blow! I get more intelligent insight from Jaime Dukes. I only like to come on because it usually has the breaking news or good links to articles.

Everyone who posts here has to care. Why bother when the team hasn't won anything worthwhile in 8 years? While I don't root for the team to lose, I understand why there are many of us that would want us to tank. This regime of baltimore/chicago crap isn't getting it done, and an offensive minded guru is needed. That, and a chance at Andrew Luck wouldn't be so bad either.

Meh.

I've never seen this team as a consistent winner so I'm not about to go and expect a mediocre team to be anything but mediocre. I love this team to death and have defended it on many occasions, but it hasn't done much to reward my dedication.

Yes, there is still a chance we can be the worst team in the history of the NFL to make the playoffs. Now THAT's an achievement.

What is going on with Niner talk!?! Am I in the wrong place? Is this not for Niner fans? When did this place get hijacked by pessimistic Niner followers: who are most comfortable booing, hating on the Niners, or proving another Niner fan wrong.

Ok, I will except that part of this zone is for silliness and over-analytical banter, for which I love and enjoy!

But LATELY, I just can’t believe the mass majority of what I’m reading! It’s got so bad that if you have any “over-positive” comments you can expect an onslaught of “point and laughter smilies”, and hate for your optimism. Nope, only pessimism flies now!

- We’ve gone 4-2 in our last six games
- We’ve salvaged an 0-5 start.
- We just pulled within ONE game of the division
- We can still make the playoffs!?!
- We just had our first dominating victory… over our rivals… on the road!
- Like Sing or not, somehow (I have no idea how) we’ve overcome that bad start, something very rare, AND there’s something to be said about that.
- It’d be historic to have a chance (at home) to win a playoff game this year.

And they say…“Yeah, but we suck because…..bla bla bla…..I’m just being rational.”

Being a FAN is a completely IRRATIONAL thing! Why would you continue to watch a team that’s losing? Because they mean more then that to you, and there’s something inspiring about the chance of winning every game!

Yet, going to this zone is like going to a church where most the people are walking around s**tting on the floor!

Of course you can say you disagree with personal, management or strategy. BUT, sometimes you guys loose sight of the fact you’re a fan of the Niners. And, those who HOPE the niners lose, are not fans! To say rooting against your team is for a high draft pick… with 5 games left…. While we’re one game out of first, is disgusting!

You want to be rational? Then go root for the Falcons, Patriots or Jets. Wouldn’t that be more rational? But get out of the NINER Zone! It makes me sick.

Just because you know more about the Niners then any other team does not make you a fan, and a conversation with a real fan has no merit because you just don’t know. You’re just a follower.

I love what you said. I completely stand behind this statement. Its time we get back to being Niner FANS!!! Go Niners!!! Beat the Packs!!!!

I am not a pessimist, I am realistic. I have been a fan since the early 70's and was spoiled by the glory years. How can I get excited about this current poor team. Where do I begin to find something to be happy about.
We have no real NFL people in the front office and a fool for a coach.
We started 0-5 and allowed the 1-10 Panthers their only victory.
We were shut out at home, when was the last time that happened?
The team we just creamed is 3-8 and much worse than their record shows.
After a few years of high draft choices the O-line is still terrible.
All our 3 quarterbacks wouldn't make 3rd string on a good team.
On an 8 year rebuild our peak was last year's 8-8 team.

Not just care, but those that I see post here every day are obviously passionate about it. For me, I will say that I like the players, and root for them always. I want to see them get a taste of what our SF Giants just tasted, and feel that success. I get bitter when I see what looks like bad game management, unpreparedness, lack of adjustment or good strategy against what the other team is doing, unimaginative playcalling, not addressing key position weaknesses forever (one would think getting a good QB just might be a good idea for an NFL team). None of that is on the players IMO.

Ah... The truth does hurt.

OP, if I watched this current team, and they were called the Patriots, the Packers, or perhaps the Cowboys, I would point and laugh. If that team played in a division where the winner could possibly have a losing record, I would point and laugh.(And most likely think that rule changes were in order, to prevent such a joke from happening again)

Fans have the right to cheer for their team, and fans have the right to b*tch about their team. Especially when the complaints are obviously holding the team back.

If a person were to watch our team through an impartial perspective, surely they would simply stop watching. The fact that those folks who do get upset with the poor coaching, awful QB play, etc,... do keep coming back to watch each week, is what makes them a fan.

Just because one fan displays his/her emotions differently, does not make them less of a fan. Afterall, those fans who vent their frustrations regularily, could also point at those fans who are "overly optimistic" and say that believing in Singletary, even if he takes this team to the playoffs in the big bad NFC West, is much like believing in Santa Claus...

I would rather have a chance to draft Andrew Luck than win this joke of a division. You can go ahead and get excited about winning the NFC West at 7-9 or -8-8 if you want to.

But I have higher expectations for this franchise. As a "fan" for 25 years I know where the standard is set for me. It's much higher than 8-8 and quick exit out of the playoffs.

Championship caliber football year in and year out is what made me. So go ahead and see how far you get with Dingleberry and either Smith at QB.

SERIOUSLY?

Andrew Luck... whats he done in the pros?I am trying to remember what he's done that made him the next Payton Manning... I mean I remember guys like Alex Smith, Matt Lienart, Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, JP Losman, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman... how about Ryan Leaf... oh man I wish we had a shot at him... There were teams that thought he was better than Payton Manning. I would prefer a shot at winning, than a shot at a qb that may or may not ever amount to anything.

There is nothing SURE about Andrew Luck and there is no sure thing that we will get Andrew Luck even if we LOSE. The only sure thing is no decent coach will want to come in here and coach a team that just won 6 games and will be starting a rookie first round QB.

To say that you have "higher expectations" in the same post that you say you would rather lose than win simply makes NO SENSE to me.

Winning what? The horrible NFC West by default? Our QB of the future is not on the roster at the moment. Luck is one of a kind QB that only comes around every so often. This team desperately needs a new identity on offense and it starts with a new coach and QB.

Fans like you continue to keep this team in the state that it has been for the past 8 years.

I agree, and your rant is likewise completely irrational. Your desire to have Sing back is not just irrational, it is destructive to the future of the franchise. Do you not care about what's best for the team?

How about applying some logic and reason when considering the future of our franchise? Huh?

Getting on here and trying to split the forum and calling everyone who disagrees with you irrational is foolish and trollish. Stop it now.

Why does this always come up? Aaron Rodgers fell into a perfect situation. He got to learn from one of the all time greats. He has a much better wide receiver corps then we do and a coach that is smart enough to put together a solid gameplan and put him in position to succeed. Enough said.
