I'll admit....I was not impressed when we hired him full time. I thought we pulled the trigger way to quick on him instead of waiting and researching other coaches.

i didn't like it...
it's not the popular opinion at all but i still loved Nolan. hear me out...
in '04 we were on of the worst teams of all time
enter the Nolan
'05: (despite one of the worst rookie years in history from Alex Smith) we double our win total (4-12) and sweep the rival Rams. Final Grade B
'06: we are in the playoff discussion late in the year finishing 7-9. Alex is decent and we find out Frank Gore is a complete stud. Final Grade A-
'07: the offense sucks epically. I don't pin this all on Nolan as a) we had to start 4 different QBs due to injury and b) he lost Norv Turner so late in the offseason it was difficult to find a replacement. Willis wins DROY. We finish 5-11. Final Grade D+
'08: canned early in season. Grade - incomplete.
By my count that's only one truly bad year ('07). When they fired him and announced Sing as his interim replacement I was hoping we'd launch a real search at season's end. Sing just seemed too much like Nolan and if we were going to stay in the Nolan direction why not just keep Nolan. It's kinda like we went with Nolan 2.0 (Sing) who's the crappier version of Nolan.

An A- for a 7-9 season?
Any season that doesn't end with a winning percentage is a bad season, no matter how you spin it.

I say no. When the Lions went 0-16 if a new coach came in and got them to 7-9 in his first year I'd say that would be an amazing darn near A+ coaching job. Just my opinion though.

i was wrong as well i didnt know he was THIS bad at gameplanning
however he does bring something to the table which most teams dont have which is motivational skills and helps players go that extra mile which is why i would like to to go back to his old position as LB coach and maybe Assistant head coach where he should not touch the game planning just there during teh game to say you can do it or what not

I was happy when Sing was hired full time. At the same time I thought shouldn't they take a week or so to see who else might be available?

I was happy with what he did as an interim head coach, but after he had to dig to the bottom of the barrel and we ended up with Jimmy Raye I got weary real quick.

I'll admit I was glad when we hired him full time,he had the players playing with pride unlike Nolen,Then in 09 I thought he did a pretty good job seeing it was his 1st year as full time coach, and we were in the playoff hunt in december,he made some mistakes but I thought he would of got better by time,I didnt know he was a complete joke of a coach until this year.
That Week 1 raping by the Seachickens where he got out coached by Pete Carroll of all people really made me question him.But the Loss to KC was the last straw

Agree, I was very happy when he was hired & just knew he would take us places. I sure didn't know it would be where we are & not clinching this division by a mile this season

I liked Nolan as well, thought he was a much better HC than Sing so if we were gonna make a change why bring in a guy with the same philosophy as our old coach but who's worse at it?

Yup. I can see now that he just looked good at the time in comparison to Nolan.

I was not happy when we fired Nolan mid-season (wanted to wait till the end of the season) and less happy when we hired Sing as interim.
Rarely, do non-coordinators work out. When people are good coaches they GET HIRED as coaches and this means they get coordinator jobs. Every time I heard "Sing is too valuable as an assistant head coach" I knew it was nonsense. When he did not get coaching gigs elsewhere that was another clue.
Motivation is pure nonsense at the pro level, it is the x's and o's that count. Without that a coach and a team is lost. When we got stuck with JImmy Raye I just prayed we would go ahead and lose to get rid of Sing and maybe ol' Jed would see the light and hire a GM to run this franchise.
