Keep it real... Who was happy when we hired Sing full time?

Don't feel bad guys. It's a typical fan reaction. When your team sucks, you have to blame somebody. Nolan was obviously the guy to blame. Once the blame starts, it turns to hate. Once the hate starts, reason goes out the window. Then you aren't thinking straight and you're running on emotion.

At that point anything with a tiny glimmer of hope seems like an oasis. You'll head toward that oasis without hesitation. In this case, it was just a mirage.

I had some other heavy stuff going on in my life at the time, so I wasn't really emotionally invested. I wasn't happy about the move.

I hated the Erickson hire so much that I almost stopped being a fan of the team. I liked the Nolan hire. I think Nolan did some good things for the franchise, but he was a crap Head Coach. I was wrong on that one. Just thought I'd show that I do the same thing, too.

I will say I didn't hate Singletary until after the Bucs game. I do my best to avoid hatred of anyone. Now I just want his ass fired and I don't even see an oasis.

Great post.

Sums it up to perfection.

I was drinking the kool-aid on Sing until the Raye hire... once he became the offensive coordinator i knew he was never going to last as a head coach.

everyone and their grandmother thought he was a great hire. i said back then that it was a horrible hire. he couldn't even get a job as a coordinator due to his lack of x's and o's knowledge. he was clearly all talk and no content back then, but everyone got suckered in because he did what mike nolan was already great at, winning meaningless games late in a lost season.

Not everybody. I remember a few of us voicing our concern about his "Smash Mouth" approach in a thread. I remember specifically being told it'll work because he's bucking the trend like the Cowboys did in the early 90's. A few others voiced their concern after he said the QB is not the most important position. But generally I'll agree, the vast majority of the board was sold on Sing. I wasn't, but that's because I'm not sold on anything we do until it leads to playoff victories.

49er fans hilarious......none of you were wrong about wanting Sing as the coach, and mind you he isn't the game planner idk where you guys are getting that from most HC use there cord to help with the game planning, its more so that sing is to much of a sissy to tell his cord that there plan is stupid and that he is going to take over from here on.....i would give him one more shot next season to turn it around that means sing needs to spend part of the off season evaluating talent all over the board not just with coaches but with the players too which imo he hasnt done very good with, but at the same time i don't think it's because he doesnt know about evaluating player talent i think he just loves his players and turns a blind eye hence "father figure" imo i think you start with firing most of the coaches and cord and then you truckle down to the players. I think this year the problems have been simple bad play calling by the offensive and defensive cord and the players arent playing very well they dont have the comradery they showed at the end of last yr.....a lot of missed opp and players not finishing their routes and missed tackles so and so forth.......so thats why i say one more shot and clean house a bit, plus we all know it takes longer than a yr and a half to fix a crappy team, its normally 3 to 5 yrs!!!!

The problems have been bad play calling on both sides of the ball. Don't you think if Sing knew what he was doing he would have took over the play calling on D, or atleast change the gameplan. He hasn't done that because he doesn't know what he's doing.

I was happy we hired Sing full time, I'm not gonna lie. But I was a little pissed that we didn't hold onto Mike Martz.

In his short time at the helm Singletary seemed to be getting the most out of the players and the whole organization seemed to be reinvigorated by his 'we won't tolerate diva's' and 'punch-em-in-the-mouth' attitude. I think he earned it.

As it turns out I was right about this team yet again.

I was pumped until both Shanahan and Gruden were canned in the offseason. The moment these guys were available it uncovered the York's mismanagement in hiring their next coach. Like a schmuck I continued to believe Sing was going to be special until Linehan declined to be OC and simply walked away. People seem to forget Sing tried to hire Dan Reeves from retirement during this period. Reeves wouldn't leave the couch to take a job a from Sing and more significantly the York's. Lucky us, the vacant job falls unceremoniously all the way down to the worst possible candidate, enter "Up the Middle" Jimmy Raye. This mistake falls on ownership for choosing a HC who couldn't recruit talented coaches. The York's need to take themselves out of football operations completely and hire a legitimate GM to hire the right coaching staff. Talented players are difference makers, but the parity league the NFL has became dictates the team with the better coaching staff will win. The York's need to reshuffle from the top down. The first major hire will show their hand and the plight of the 49ers. They need to put some serious thought into their next move. They cannot fubar this one. The York's will never sell this team so lets pray they fire themselves.

Thanks! I have warm fuzzy. I live for the warm fuzzy.

I think this concept applies to everybody at every level of the team, too. It's hard to be objective because you just end up hating the team and stop being a fan. I guess I can thank Singletary for allowing me to remain a fan.
i was very happy

Same here,
The real question should be, how many of you still liked him after he canned Martz and hired Jimmy Raye after good OCs rejected him? I thought Sing was an imbecile who was able to motivate his players, but he needed great coordinators around him. I liked that players would play hard for him, but without the right strategy...
