The only fan opinions that really matter to me are from people I know personally, because they are all level headed smart people who have been fans for a long time. We used to tailgate back in the 80's & 90's. My dad used to take me to games as far back as the early 70's.

All my friends & family members who are die hard Niner fans are rolling their eyes again on how lame this team has become under the Yorks. We all see this latest situation as more ineptitude from ownership that is rather clueless on what they are doing with the team.

For all the people who hate on Jed York, look no further than the Cardinals. It is clear that he is not going to rush into a hire to satisfy his detractors. I am disturbed when he says that the team doesn't need a GM. One only need look across the bay to see the folly in that statement. Hiring the WRONG front office people can be just as big a problem - see Matt Millen in Detroit. Jed's beloved Uncle Eddie made some horrible moves before he got lucky and hired Bill Walsh. How Jed structures the front office and who he chooses to run the football operation will let us know if 100% of zero is still zero or we have a real leader at the helm.

You are wrong about one thing. They are not clueless. In their opinion Eddie was a horrible business person and cost their family a lot of money. They believe he paid way too much for those 5 shiny trophies. This ownership, and early indications; Jed included......are committed to a business plan that optimizes the most possible profits without seriously wasting resources trying to compete with the great Franchises.

Does this strategy mean that the Niners will definitely not win a Championship? Absolutely not, they could get lucky here and there, but they never will have extended periods of great success.

They are not as stupid as you think. In fact, it is true, they are smarter than Eddie. But Eddie had a competitive nature, thats what makes him a better person. The Yorks should just go buy a business that does not involve fans as customers. That is what makes them the scum of the earth. But they are certainly not clueless.

I don't think we know enough about what happened to even comment on it. It seemed to me there was something Jed did not want to talk about, namely the exact reason Scot was let go. He may be perfectly justified or it may be a bonehead move five weeks before the draft. McCloughan hasn't said a word either. Information on this has been pretty hard to come by and Jed didn't shed much light on it when he spoke. It sounds like something very personal has happened that neither of them wants to talk about publicly. I think they have said it is unrelated to football and they don't seem to be firing him for cause. I don't have a clue what the hell happened.

The scenario floating around now is that the Niners are not disclosing anything because of legal implications, that being, they want him to resign rather than fire him and have to pay off his contract. What that means to me is a) they are stupid, if they have been preparing for this for a while yet didn't go after Holmgren or someone else capable beyond JY and PM to run the show, or b) they are ridiculously cheap, didn't want to breach the contract and hire someone else, and are playing a game of chicken over 1M in salary, while holding the fate of the franchise in their hands. Again, they don't see the forest from the trees; you are going to wait until SM resigns so you don't have to pay him, and don't lock up a Homgren or some other REAL GM for 4 years, which could alter the entire future of the team! Ridiculous.

1) They do want him to resign so they don't have to pay him...
2) They are rediculously cheap and playing a game of chicken over $1 Million of salary.
3) They don't want a real GM which could better the team like Holmgren.
