Does anybody think that Balmer has the potential to do....anything?

49ers selecting Kentwan Balmer = FAIL

Its unnerving though at how some of our linemen and others that we no longer wanted found life better when they went elsewhere.

Like 49ers practice squadder Harvey Dahl who couldn't crack the active roster yet now he starts for Atlanta? Yeah, that is disturbing, but most players we've let go haven't gone on to do much. Dahl is an exception at this point, but troubling just the same.

Do you remember Ted Washington? Peterson etc....

This pretty much says it all.

Yeah WTF
No!
I believe the starting DL are playing so well that it is hard to fine playing time for Balmer. Personally I feel like if one of the starting DE is no longer with the team next season, the Niners would not feel uncomfortable putting him into the starting lineup in training camp. Franklin is a completely different as a NT is much more valuable than DE in a 3-4 defense that it would not make sense to let a star NT leave the team.

Hey, somebody has to make up the "bust" numbers, right? It's like catching a disease, everyone says "it won't happen to me", but the percentages are the percentages and somebody has to fall into that category.

i lol'ed

In a word, yes. KB has great size...to play DE or NT...guys who can do both are worth keeping. His development has been fairly slow...but have to remember he only blossomed during his senior season at NC. He seems to be one of those guys that'll be a late bloomer...but when he does, he'll be a very valuable DL.
Man it is still early in his career, and if he does pan out at all next year we will have a stud rotation at defensive line. which would be awesome cause those guys tire out rather quickly, which means you need a nice rotation. And when has a 3-4 defensive end ever been a sack specialist? His job is to take up blockers to free the line backers, and provide a push. Its extra if he gets sacks. I would give up on him yet, he could fit in rather well in the rotation next year.

Lets be honest. The guy hasn't done anything. Some of you say that he clogs holes, but how can you be satisfied with stats like these:

He has played in 27 games.

He has 11 solo tackles in 27 games.

He has 8 assisted tackles in 27 games.

So that is a total of 19 tackles in 27 games.

Not to mention, he has never had a sack.

In limited play last year he made a few tackles for a loss so to me he looks to have potential but why he played sparingly this year is probably because Smith,Franklin,Soap and McDonald all played very well. They also drafted that DE Ricky Jean-Francois this year they seem to like as well.

What a some people on the zone(not including you) don't understand is it takes time for most of these young players to develop and if they don't perform right away then some zoners call them busts.
A perfect example is Manny Lawson who was drafted as a pass rusher-since he hasn't had many sacks so far zoners were saying he's overrated,he's a bust,he's.
Lawson may not be the pass rushing force the 49ers drafted him for but he is an above average LB and has showed it this year-play the run, coverage, force fumbles and sack the QB.

I'm not saying Balmer will be anything special or anything at all but personally I'll give young players such as him a chance to develop before I start running my mouth and talking bs about him.

Go Niners

Really have little to no hope of Balmer doing anything. If he does hey thats great, but he will always be the guy we passed on DeSean Jackson for

If they are able to draft CJ Spiller then that will more than make up for passing on D.Jackson(twice)

Spiller looks even more explosive than Jackson whom as we know is explosive.

Go Niners

our DL is playing at a high level right now. we dont need him to contribute at the moment. lets give him time to get better, and when its time for him to step in he better be ready.

we don't have anyone to coaching him up, if you notice our best players are FA , and the best players that in naturlly givted is Willis and he is a LB and palying for a Hall of fame LB !
Balmer is 1 year away from a 1st round BUST

completely disagree. yes spiller would be fantastic but drafted a first round bust so late in the round when we could have gotten desean jackson at that price would have been ten times better. then we might have signed an OT instead of crabtree. funny how things work out
