Hill has disappointed me. Besides that good few games at the end of the Martz era he hasn't shown too much. At this point I'd take Zeek over him. Zeek has shown better hands than even Ginn. I doubt Hill makes the team at this point.

I don't have a problem with Zeigler, at-least this year.......it seems he put on alittle more weight than previous years...and he has caught almost everything thrown his way...
the one WR I do have a problem with is Josh Morgan....I don't know what he brings to our starting offense....
I'd rather have our Depth chart
Crabtree
Ginn
Zeigler or Jason Hill
then Morgan....
I have seen him get caught from behind on numerous occasions.....as well as drop a wide open pass, because "it came down like a punt"......sure its funny, but we can't be having those types of excuses from a WR during the regular season....its not like there were defenders near him that messed with his concentration.....he just dropped a catch.
Morgan is more of a #4 or #5 or cut from the team type of guy. He had 1 good PRESEASON game vs. the Packers years ago and everybody thinks he's a superstar. I don't get it. He never did anything before and he never did anything since. He gets caught from behind all day, complains the ball comes down like a punt, drops the ball all the time and tips the ball into the air for interceptions.
What exactly is Josh Morgan good at? Please tell me.
Morgan is a possession receiver and a top 5 blocking WR downfield. Everyone seems to think we need a superstar at every position. Morgan, for everything he does, and considering the offenses he has played in, would probably rank around league average if you compared him to every other team's Number 2.
Not hating on Ziggy, he should be our 4th this year, but the Morgan hate on this forum is ridiculous.
Morgan is garbage. And we need a #2 WR.
Just some superb analysis and another well thought out post on Niner Talk.
Have you watched the games the last several years? Please tell me when this guy has been good.
Well he hasn't been bad either. I think that both Morgan and Hill (if they make the team this year) need to step up or move on. Morgan is only in his what 3rd year? Hill is in his 4th. That puts Hill on the bubble more than it does Morgan. I don't know what Hill did to Sullivan, but Lelie did the same thing I suspect. Sully is the problem I think. Not the Receivers. Lelie wasn't great but he was solid. Unfortunately we had a crap OC at the time and the WR Coach can't coach. Is it any wonder our guys drop passes all over the place and that they don't last long in the league?
I bet I could do a better job than Sullivan. It's not THAT hard. Know your routes. Know your Stablemates routes. Keep your hands between the pads when you are blocking. See their name don't F'N hit em. If the ball is catchable then you better haul it in and know you're gonna get hit so PROTECT the ball. If you can only get one mitt on it then knock it the F@ck down, don't tip it into the air cause you ain't Jerry and you ain't one handing it. If your QB is on the move then it's time for scramble drills, come back to him and give the man a target. This is SIMPLE F@CKIN STUFF. I don't know what Sully does all day but on Sundays it doesn't look like he goes over this sh@t with them. Only Routes seem to be important to that guy. Routes are great but if they can't catch the F@ckin ball then I could care less if they run sloppy routes as long as they can catch the ball.
Sully IMHO is the guy that should be on the bubble. If his unit fails then HE fails. Period. I don't see how people can consistently hate on any one player when the issue isn't the players it's the Coach. Get Jerry, get anyone, get rid of Sully. I've been fed up with his dog and pony act for a very long time.
~Ceadder
Lelie isnt even in the league anymore. He had 11 catches for us and like 10 on Oakland the yr after
And THAT is my point. We ruin Receivers on this team. So long as Sullivan is the Receivers Coach, I don't see that changing anytime in the near future.
Not just Lelie though. Sullivan will continue to put scrubs out there so long as we have some on the team. Rather than put solid players on the field.
That idiot has cost this team A LOT of money in wasted contracts. Oh you may blame McCloughan, but think about it. Why aren't these guys getting on the field?
Because we have a manager as our HC who listens to his Coaches. Everyone ELSE can get the right guys on the field. But not Sullivan? How the f@ck does that man still have a job?
Not gonna speak on Warhopp and Foerster since they're gone. Sully you better have eyes in the back of your skull if I'm anywhere near the facility. It would be great test of intestinal fortitude for me not to give in to the dark side and take that guy out.

he BURNT dude
could we Please have QBs that hit our receivers in stride...he burnt him, but still had to slow down for the pass. *sigh*
I don't know what goes on behind the scenes...but Jason has said he does well in camp...and practice.....either way it doesn't matter, if we let him go I'm going to still follow his career.

I think the problem with J Hill and the coaching staff is his physicality. I don't think there's any doubt that he has an ability to get open consistently, but Raye and Sing are old school and want their receivers to run block and that is Hill's worst attribute. I'm not saying I agree with them, I like Hill's game a lot and wish he would get PT, but I that's my theory on what is going on.

Arnaz Battle was a better blocker and receiver than Morgan. To bad he wasn't healthy often.

I've seen receivers around the league halfass on blocking where they block for a quick second and don't sustain it, and to me, Jason is above average if not very good...that is why I always say he plays bigger than his size of 6'0 202...I've seen him do a great job of holding his blocks....
even against the Raiders there was a play where there was a run up the middle and Hill ran up too the action hit a guy from the side....I believe he also destroyed someone in the Colts game on special teams...or something, but I remember someone pointing that out during the gameday thread...which allowed me to catch it on the replay...
I think he might just be bitter from Josh Morgan passing him on the depth chart, even though Hill was a 3rd round draft pick....and picked a year before.......maybe does just enough and doesn't say much purposely because of his bitterness...some coaches like players to kiss their arse and Jason doesn't seem like that...
more like, I know I'm good and I should be starting..., here watch me in practice, watch me during the games....and that is all I have to say to you.

And to be quite honest, that's what he should be doing. Not whining about his misfortune, just go out there and do what the coaches tell you to do.
Unfortunately Sullivan is a Putz and will NEVER accurately assess any Receiver on this team. Not one. Crabtree is on the field because he's the 1st rounder from last season and because Sully had nothing to do with him being chosen. Like Davis 5 years ago, it was a no brainer. You have a bluechip Player fall in your laps, you take him.
I like both Morgan AND Hill but Sullivan has all but given up on Hill and it seems to be going that way with Morgan too. He's the COACH for Christ's sake. He should be COACHING. They don't have time in College to teach you all the bits you need to know to take it to the next level. But Sullivan doesn't help our Receivers succeed even when he knows this. He wastes time with scrubs like Gilmore and anyone else should already know how to play their position. The scrubs basically do nothing but suck sphincter in practice, Sully gets his jollies from it and then goes to Coach and turns in his list before Game Day. I don't blame Hill one bit for being twisted over that. So long as Sully is around it's not going to change.

While I'm not suggesting Sullivan isn't the problem or part of it but I'm not convinced yet that it's all on him either.
How many WRs that have left the team have had big impact on other teams? It's not like these guys are going to other teams, getting coached up, and than having huge impact on their respective teams.
If Jason Hill (or any WR on our squad) gets cuts and moves on to be a productive player on another team than I'll be far more inclined to put it on Sullivan and his coaching.

Ranked 29-32 Offensively with little to no capable Receivers would you want our guys? I wouldn't. When Jones was able to get on the field and was targeted by Smith, he didn't do too bad. Bruce retired Battle went to Pittsburgh everyone else pretty much retired except for Bryant who actually played better after he was cut.
But name another Receiver that guy had in his tenure that performed well? I can't even name anyone on this team that has. No way we can constantly get less than average Receivers in the draft or FA or even trading for them. The odds of that happening are huge. But yet it happened. And Sully continues to ride the Coattails of he Receivers in Arizona.
I could see one or two years where there could be poor talent in the unit. That's not unheard of. 6 years in a Row is just not reasonable and it's not likely. Yet here we are, worrying about Hill, Morgan and Ziggy.
Maybe McCloughan figured it out and in a drunken stupor called Sully out. Who knows. All I know is that there is no way in hell that this is a lack of talent issue.
