I dont get why people are bashing him for still playing football in his small league? His heart wasn't in the NFL anymore, not football period. The NFL is the highest level competition you can have; you eat and sleep football 24/7 because if you're not on the practice field you're watching film. If you're not getting hit in games, your body is recovering from hits from the most elite athletes the game can offer. In his football league in Florida (or whatever) I'm assuming he doesn't have the Ray Lewis' to deal with or the game every week for 16 weeks to deal with.
I quit piano lessons because I didn't want to have to deal with my piano instructor and playing the pieces he wants me to play, the way he wanted me to play. However, I still play piano for an hour or two a day because I actually like playing the piano.
Interesting analogy.

Ya, I'm not sure why people are mad about him playing semi-pro football. Everything else, I understand everyone being mad.

What does spending money have to do with this quitter?

It's not the NFL's fault the players blow through their money.

Stop giving this guy attention. He obviously couldn't handle big boy football and quit, and now he makes up excuses.
Leave it alone.

“People just keep asking me that, and it’s like, ‘OK, why are you asking me that?’ And their No. 1 reason – their only reason – is money,” Coffee said. “It saddens me, man. If your only focus is money, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. A lot of people, they chase money. And when they get the money, they think, ‘OK, what now? There’s got to be more than what I’m feeling now.’”
Coffee is currently working on getting his degree from Alabama and is considering a career in ministry.
“I want to love what I do,” Coffee said. “I don’t just want to get paid.”
Gotta respect that. Unfortunately, there's a lot of people in this world who will never understand the bold.

Nothing wrong with quitting a job you don't like (I quit a good paying govt job), but last I checked he didn't say "I have returned all the signing bonus I received from the 49ers" No he said "No comment" because he has no morals, and is holding the cash and has lawyered up to keep it I am sure. Its easy to say I don't want to do it and I don't need the money when you took what 1/2 a million or more to sign and then not fulfill the contract nor return the money?
So he took the money and ran because he doesn't want to work, he wants to preach which garners him 0 respect in my eyes. Ditch diggers, or janitors have a better job.
