You could've said that back in 2005 about Brees. Brees really only had one winning season before he left San Diego and that was the year he left. Carson Palmer has taken Cincy to the playoffs twice.
But really, Cincy is not going to let Carson Palmer go without knowing they have a capable replacement or knowing which QB will declare for the draft.

Sounds a lot like Alex Smith.
Palmer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Smith. I'd take him next year in a heartbeat. He's in a totally different class than Smith.

our offensive supporting cast is just as good as his. he also just threw for 400 yards. they lost because of their D.
he's way better than smith, c'mon.

i don't even care about how much of yards he can throw, i only care about winning. and carson can't win, he proved it against the browns and the bucs.
if i'm not wrong, the falcons had to replace some starters in the 2ndary...

Palmer has proven he can win a lot more than Smith, that's for sure.

I have absolutely no idea what is wrong with him now but I have to think it is the surgeries he has had. Maybe a change of scenery, coming back out west, & a 1st rd. QB playing behind him will reignite that fire and we get the old Palmer (or even 75% of what he used to be) for just a season or two.
Somebody once said (can't remember who) that any QB who has been released by his team probably isn't worth signing. QB is the one position teams don't let players go from.
The only Maruqee quarterback I can think of that was cut by one team and did well elsewhere was Kurt Warner -- and he was total garbage in New York in-between.

Great, so we replace a lower tier Quarterback for a low tier Quarterback. I'm not a fan of Palmer at all, don't think he's all that at all. Thrives off the back of 2 maybe 3 really good games a year and stinks the rest of it. I'd rather chance my arm on a R1 Rookie than take this piece of junk.

Cincy is in the same boat as about half the rest of this quarterback-starved league; they have a guy who is no better than average since he tore up his knee. They would love to trade him for someone better but every team with a QB better than Carson Palmer isn't going to give up their QB.
Drafting a QB and spending the time to develop him is the only realistic option available. In order to trade for a QB, you have to give up something better than what you would get. That is just the way it is in the league right now. Every league observer seems to feel that we are at an all-time low in depth at QB. After Peyton and Brady, there are 3 or 4 other guys and then the elevator hits the basement.

Just saw that on ESPN, one of Mort and Schefter headlines. Said he could use the retirement card to force a trade and his wife is from California, so SF could be a place he could end up.

Filed to ESPN: Carson Palmer will demand a trade from Bengals; willing to play retirement card, if necessary.
