San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Omenihu has been arrested in San Jose following allegations of domestic violence. The Mercury News reported that police were called to the player's home in San Jose, and the 25-year-old was booked at the Santa Clara County jail and then released after posting bail.

"Police officers were called to Omenihu's home in the 300 block of Santana Row at 4:39 p.m. for a report of domestic violence," wrote Robert Salonga of the Mercury News. "Upon arriving, a woman told officers that Omenihu is her boyfriend and that he 'pushed her to the ground during an argument.'

"A police news release stated that the woman complained of arm pain but that 'officers did not observe any visible physical injuries,' and that she declined medical attention."

Omenihu was at the location when officers arrived and was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence. The police obtained an emergency protective order for the alleged victim. It was served to the 49ers defensive end.

"We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information," the 49ers said via a statement issued by the team.

The 49ers are preparing to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Omenihu arrived at the 49ers via a trade from the Houston Texans on November 2, 2021. During the regular season, he registered career-highs in tackles (20) and sacks (4.5).

Omenihu recorded two sacks in San Francisco's first playoff game, a Wild Card win over the Seattle Seahawks. He played 15 defensive snaps against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the defensive end was day-to-day this week due to an oblique strain.

January 25 Update

The NFL released the following statement regarding the Omenihu situation: "The matter will be reviewed under the league's personal conduct policy. There is no change to his status."

Nick Wagoner, acting as general manager John Lynch, had to adapt his plan based on earlier selections taking several offensive tackles off draft boards. With those options gone, Wagoner opted for former Missouri pass rusher Darius

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
