Originally posted by genus49:Originally posted by Heroism:One of the biggest mysteries of the 2026 season thus far is CJ West and his fall from grace. How a guy who's excelled at run defense his entire football career can become soooo bad in one offseason is baffling. From the preseason to week 1, he has been a straight up liability on the field in base. The guy is constantly getting blown off the ball and moved across multiple gaps.
I still believe in the guy because I know what he did in college and last season, but holy hell, it's not looking good right now.
Yeah CJ was one of my favorite picks. Like him more then the Collins pick. Need him to get his sh*t together. Really tired of having so many 2nd year slumps.

Maybe he means at edge...I just want Mykel Williams back asap. That guy may not have been giving us glimpses of Aldon Smith as a pass rusher out there but he was collapsing the hell out of the pocket and helping the run D in a big way.

Run Defense Struggles: In contrast to his pass rushing, West struggled significantly against the Rams' interior running game early on. Film analysts and reporters noted he was frequently pushed off the line of scrimmage, prompting the 49ers to pivot toward rookie Gracen Halton to shore up the interior defense. These are very weird replacement choices. Most of them are smaller 3T types. Slaton and Godchaux are only big boys.

There has gotta be a 2 down run stuffer out there we can rotate.

Thin dude to injury more than anything.

Jared Harrison-Hunte is athletic and has power.
He can get after it like Gracen Halton. Easily the best 3-technique on any practice squad.
