At this point, all the merchandise is suspect.
I'm excited for James Thompson once his hammy is good.

They did very to little run stuffing. They were getting moved with no problem at the snap of the ball.

For whatever reason, McVay went away from the run despite this happening repeatedly. Maybe his brain was jet lagged?

Seriously, Kyren Williams was having himself a day. McVay did Morris a solid by going away from the run. It's not like the 49ers were running away with the score either, it was 10-7. I've never seen the 49ers that gashed in run defense last season that bad, maybe I did but don't remember. All I know is the Rams interior O-line made it look easy to run on the 49ers defense.

Lambs tried to run on that 49er goal line stand. They didn't succeed, so im hopeful the 49ers figured out how to stop those middle runs. Halton may have been that reason that the rams went off the run game in did more passing - that and after that goal line stand they were really falling behind.

Every year since they've adopted the base wide 9. They've been able to mask it some years by scoring so many points that it forces opposing offenses to abandon the run, but it's been bad every year. The base wide 9 is a paradoxical pain in the ass in that you want smaller, attacking DL, but also need massive bodies to hold up against the barrage of double teams they'll face.

From the preseason to week 1, he has been a straight up liability on the field in base. The guy is constantly getting blown off the ball and moved across multiple gaps.

I still believe in the guy because I know what he did in college and last season, but holy hell, it's not looking good right now.

Couldn't agree more

And James Thompson was out with a hamstring. I think he can do alot for the run game when healthy.

💯

I don't know what happened to this guy. He was good as a rookie but I keyed on him on those inside runs and he was getting blown back 3-5 yards every snap.
Did all of you just collectively miss the job that Gracen Halton did was he was inserted against the Reams? CJ West was getting pushed around, so out went West and in went Halton. Did you not see the rookie 4th round pick stuff the Reams on the goal line sneak by Stifferd that went for exactly zero yards? Or were you all just yelling about CJ? I mean, yes, yelling about CJ is understandable. But not realizing that Halton shut down that Rams inside running attack is really something else. How could you miss that? Eh?

EDIT: Stats from the game back up the impact Halton had. The Reams gashed that interior D for an average of six yards per carry in that first half when West was getting pushed around. But when Halton replaced him in the second half, that average dropped to just two. DID ANY OF YOU WATCH THE SECOND HALF?

The crazy thing is West had a very good game rushing the passer. I don't get it

Rams stopped running it as much in the 2nd half, let's not have another Collins situation praising and getting hyped for a player over 1 play. I do like Halton I looked at him more as a rusher than a run stuffer it'd be great if he can step up to be the anchor we need but I'm not counting on it

I can hardly wait for Mykel's return. I suspect he will have a really good year.

The pass wasn't the problem in this game. Kyren Williams running through gaps like the defense wasn't on the field was certainly the problem.
