Ownershipneeds to take a long hard look at this team. Attendance was way down and the team is going to finish below .500. In a region where the Warriors and 49ers are competitive evey year this isn't going to fly. There are 2 reasons to own a pro sports franchise. One is tt make money. The other is an ego thing. To stoke that ego you want to win. Currently they aren't winning and they will lose money if they don't start drawing fans again.

They already committed to both Farhan and Kapler for next season.

As they should. But hopefully if we have a repeat, next year is it. There is no reason to change either this early on. Both have done some good, and their share of things that should be improved. I have one more year of disapointment in Farhan left, and one more year of watching Kapler's brand of s**t baseball in me.

I dont know about all that.

I think if there WAS a move to make... it would be to fire Kapler. Get in some new leadership to change up the lockerroom culture. But that does nothing if don't have adequate talent to complete. So, yeah. I dont think that move makes much sense at this point. Next season is put up or shutup.

Farhan:
1. Improved the farm system.
2. Fielded a couple of competitive teams. And a 107 win team.
3. Failed to land a big FA.
4. Failed to improve a playoff roster twice.

Kapler:
1. Managed a couple successful teams even without a lot of talent. And a 107 win team.
2. He doesn't make the roster, he manages what is given to him.
3. His style of baseball is borderline unwatchable. Over values metrics.
4. He fields s**tty defensive teams.

Both are under contract. Not sure who you get to improve it. Might as well just play it out one more and see if they can start to complete their plan. If they don't, move on. If they Giants weren't in the playoff hunt for most of the year I would say otherwise. In the hunt isn't standing a chance. I knew they had no longterm chance given the SP and defense, but they were in it for a long time.

We really needed to land Judge last year. He really would have not only filled a void in the lineup but in the leadership in this lockeroom that has not been seen since Buster left.

The whole thing was a sham. He was never actually considering us. He just used his hometown ties to bait the Yankees into giving him the most money possible.

Bob Melvin would be an immediate upgrade and would actually bring back the father figure type leader to the team, not the cool uncle who lets you do whatever. If the Padres fire Melvin, Kapler needs to be out immediately.

Kapler has lost the clubhouse. When your best player is calling out the culture of the team to the media, the damage is already done. If they keep Kapler, and things dont change significantly, the players are going to see that early on next year and check out. It will be another wasted season.

IMO Webb's comments should be the nail in Kapler's coffin. If ownership didn't know before, they do now.
I think there may be changes at GM and manager this year. Ownership saw how attendance dropped this season and one thing wealthy people hate is losing money.

I would keep Farhan. He's a smart dude and helped build the Dodgers deep farm system. He needs more time here, while Kaplers style is just dull.
Farhan should be a short leash though.
