Farhan must have really good job security or something
We really needed to have moved on from Yazstremski. He had a couple decent seasons buts he's lost it.

Are we concerned about SS yet?

On the bright side, Scott Alexander looks like a great find for the bullpen.

Fight tooth and nail to win 80 games.
Avoid selling talent and restocking the farm system, at all costs.
The big FA get is some mid tier FA on an overpay, in the hopes he will come here, build around that guy for the 80 wins

It would be a lot better if you had Haniger, Conforto and Yaz. Haniger is getting close. I have said this before, but I think some of these hitters would benefit from having some more respected hitters in the lineup that offers protection. Nobody on the giants scares anyone...so pitchers can challenge them every time. Pitch around them and make them chase s**t. Without protection, you take pretty good baseball players like Yaz and make them mediocre. And lol at Yaz being a CF.

As far as Crawford goes...I think he's washed. I still love the dude but he looks like a .180 hitter.

Rebuilding with minor league talent, which the Giants are attempting to do, is normally a 4-5 year process. Look how bad the Astros were before all that minor league talent finally paid off. I consider the COVID year to be a "do over" for the Farhan regime, which means he has this season and maybe a portion of next year to start showing some progress. But, if there's no end to the losing in sight, and the minor league talent is not developing, then . . . .

After the Giants lost the 2002 WS, they had a couple of good years before finally committing to a rebuild in 2005. It took time. But it did happen.

My issue is this. When the Giants signed Farhan, our farm system was ranked 24th....which was already trending up as we were 28th prior to the 2018 season (Farhan was signed in November of 2018). We are currently ranked 17th. In five years, we have seen incremental improvement to our farm system, while aside from one fluke season, we have seen zero improvement to our Major League team.

I am pretty much done with Farhan. After an under .500 season, I would absolutely move on.

There is no "committing to a rebuild". The draft is a huge crapshoot, and your basically just taking stabs in the dark trying to find gems. But you're doing that every year regardless of how good or bad you are. Your chances of landing a superstar just go up when you suck and keep picking in the top 10.

The Giants didnt make a decision to commit to building the farm system in the mid 00's, they just had some great drafts/signings because John Barr and Dick Tidrow were fantastic. We hit on Cain and Pablo in 2002, Wilson in 2003, Romo in 2005, Lincecum in 2006, Bum in 2007, Posey and Crawford in 2008, Belt in 2009, and Panik in 2011. It was a great run.

If we don't have quality guys in the FO drafting the right players were not going to just solve the problem by building through the draft. People always say "We need to build through the draft instead of spending in free agency", as if it's something they haven't thought of. Of course you want to hit on a bunch of your picks, but we haven't been, so were forced to continue to sign Mitch Haniger and Michael Conforto to fill in the gaps.

And you might be right. I'm not necessarily in love with Farhan or Kapler. It's just that blowing it up and starting over means another 4-5 year "let's see what happens" process. But, I'm not denying what you feel because I feel the same way.

Good rundown. I agree.

LOL I can't believe you responded to that. The two teams are nothing like what he is saying. Those 06-08 Giant teams had some solid players.

Barry Bonds $20,000,000.00 Jason Schmidt $10,500,000.00 Moises Alou $7,453,426.00 Ray Durham $7,000,000.00 Steve Finley $7,000,000.00 Armando Benitez $6,266,220.00

SP Matt Cain SP Noah Lowry SP Matt Morris SP Jason Schmidt SP Jamey Wright

They had Aurilia, spent big money on Zito and Rowand. Had guys like Omar Vizquel. Some of FAs were good, some not. Some draft picks worked.

But this team of nobodies is nothing like the years he referenced. He keeps thinking the giants won by just drafting well and that simply is not that truth. It takes more than just hitting some draft picks.
