Let's try to take it to the RB threads at least and keep this for Jordan Watkins discussion.

at least we've evolved. old enough to remember when every single thread turned into an Alex Smith thread

and...

Jordan has a lotta hype to live up to this upcoming season.

Hype? He is a rookie drafted 138th overall and hasnt even had training camp.

Now maybe pressure if we are hoping he replaces the mental patient that is currently rehabbing.

It's been a while since Jerry but I hope this guy becomes our next GOAT WR, becomes better than BA( nothing against Aiyuk, tho). It's not bad to dream, right.

The odds are against getting a HOF WR outside Round 1. Since Jerry was drafted, TO is the only great WR not drafted in the first round (Moss, Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Harrison).

Antonio Brown? I don't know if his craziness will keep him out of the HOF(it should) but if Watkins can come anywhere close to his career for us this would be a homerun pick!

Didn't I include him in my list?

I think he's probably not making the hall.

What is amazing is if you look at Lynn Swann's "hall of fame" career and compare it to hundreds of other WRs not in the hall.

You did sorry! I think I had a mini stroke or something lol.

Yeah I think those Pittsburgh WRs made it in simply cuz of the rings. Stallworth at least managed to top 1k yards a few times.

It's also telling that the way the game has change is significant, but when you look at Swann vs Largent in the same time, or if you look at Jerry's career numbers just AFTER injuring both knees at 35 years old and realize his post "career ending injury" numbers and realize that they were comparable to Swann's entire career.

Or look at what Don Hutson did 40 years earlier including 99 TDs.

I used to live in Pittsburgh and half that team made the hall that didn't deserve it, particularly when you consider Roger Craig isn't in.

Yeah it's actually amazing how well Jerry played after the injury and it's clear that it impacted him in a big way. You can see a substantial drop in his numbers after the injury(do wonder if him coming back so quick and reinjuring it had a factor in it as well though)

I always laugh when youngsters try to downplay Jerry and think he'd somehow wouldn't be able to play at a high level cuz the corners today are bigger, stronger faster

If we'd even get Watkins to come close to Jerry's post ACL career it would be a slam dunk. But once again...its great to see that vs what we were seeing with AJ Jenkins early on but until pads go on all this hype is silly.
how is the rook looking out there?

All I've seen are positive, but there isn't much. I think, in general, the WR group is struggling with lack of veteran leadership. May be why Aiyuk has been helping. Jennings "injury" has had him absent, as has Trent Taylor who would have been the most experienced WR for camp. The player with the next most practices with the 49ers is Jacob Cowing, but he got hurt too. Which gets us down to the only player left and that is Pearsall, and this is his first camp with the team and he has missed time too.

At this point it's actually possible Watkins has had more practice with the 49ers than Pearsall ... but he's a rookie.

Good lord this team is currently incredibly thin at WR.

I googled it and #39 is a rookie UDFA CB Joshua Pickett who probably wont make the Broncos roster

on that note, man the Broncos CB room is pretty good

What I saw was Surtain broke up a pass for Pearsall and after that Pearsall dominated ... it didn't say WHO he dominated.

Watkins beat Surtain in the team period supposedly, but this looks like a 1v1 drill.
He looks great in training camp so far. Not sure what he will be. But so far looks fast with great hands and route running. More advanced than you would guess at this point too. A lot of positive signs.
