I mean you can say that for every single team. So many WRs get drafted every yr and a ton of them don't so jack s**t….the problem is folks assume a day 3 WR is gonna just automatically be JJ or Puka. that's simply not reality.

I wonder how many guys complaining about Watkins being a bust even remember what happened with JJ as a rookie(didn't make the week 1 roster and was signed to the PS)

Cowing really hurt his chances cuz now he's 2 years removed from his selection and has very snaps to show what he can or cannot do. Watkins at least was good enough to make the roster, just couldn't crack the lineup much.

Injuries will derail any career so #1 thing is our guys have to find a way to stay healthy and carry whatever good vibes they have in OTAs and spring practices into training camp and the regular season+

was his injury really that bad? I swear it was just an ankle. maybe I don't remember.

I don't think Shanahan likes rookies on offense much.

Which one are you talking about? Cowing was a hamstring, the problem was he kept aggravating it. Happened first day of training camp after he had a great minicamp/OTAs and I think Maiocco said he re-injured it like twice at least during the season trying to come back.

Watkins it was more timing. Hurt his ankle in the first preseason game before we got a big look at him, then when he came back he hurt his calf. Two nagging injuries in a row. Damn shame too because that's when we needed WR bodies more than ever. If he didn't hurt his calf that would've been the perfect opportunity for him to get serious playing time with Robinson suspended, JJ missing time and being banged up, Bourne not signed til week 2 and Pearsall getting injured week 4.

If we draft another wr early I'm guessing they don't expect much from Watkins or Cowing. Staying healthy is a massive issue with this team. Cowing re-aggravating
that hammy 2-3x is insane.

Getting paid to sit on the sidelines or up in the box with Jed is the 49er way.
They will draft WR early since they lack a true X. Both Watkins and Cowing fit more as Pearsall's backup at the Z and having some action in the slot. Jennings will be too pricey and Bourne reminds me of the football version of Buddy Hield. Past that, Moore was really just a return specialist so they might look to replace him with someone more versatile. Robinson is entering his final year so the WR room after 2026 is

X: ?
Z/Slot: Pearsall, Cowing, Watkins

So they have spots open for free agents and maybe multiple draft picks at WR.

I see. I remember bits and pieces but never read into it.
