Let's try to take it to the RB threads at least and keep this for Jordan Watkins discussion.

at least we've evolved. old enough to remember when every single thread turned into an Alex Smith thread

and...

Jordan has a lotta hype to live up to this upcoming season.

lol that's true. Good times.

and definitely glad to hear the hype for Jordan though wanna see it come pads time in training camp before really being too excited.

But considering I wasn't a big fan of the pick I'd love to see the young man prove me wrong in a big way.
Jennings plays from the slot and struggles to get off the line at split/X. He might be able to play Y.
Pearsall plays flanker/Y off the line to help his release. He might be able to play X.
Cowing plays from the slot. He might be able to play Y.

Is Watkins the top prospect on the roster to play split end week 1?

I know Aiyuk and Robinson will be back so investing at WR now will be a loser by week 5 because it would force a young guy off the team, but the first 4 weeks look like Watkins is going to be really important.

Just thinking about this after the purge this offseason there are going to be critical rookies at every position group except OL, TE, QB.
It's been a while since Jerry but I hope this guy becomes our next GOAT WR, becomes better than BA( nothing against Aiyuk, tho). It's not bad to dream, right.

lol, meanwhile I'm just hoping Aiyuk gets back to form because 2023 was really, really good

WR mistakes are blamed on the QB anyhow.
I wish all college player draft video packages left out the ordinary highlights that anyone should make. A WR scoring from 70 yards out on a blown coverage tells you nothing about the WR. A DB/LB catching a ball thrown right to their hands that was clearly overthrown doesn't tell you anything about their coverage ability. A pass rusher getting ignored and getting a sack just tells us they can move at all and they have eyes. A QB throwing with no pressure to a player who isn't covered 5 yards down the field, even if it ends up being a TD isn't a telling clip about the QB. Of course ideally the big scouting companies would release all their internal cutups on youtube after the draft :)

Watkins with the ball in his hands is interesting enough that I want to see more, he's not afraid, he's got decent hands, his routes are relatively crisp, and he's got good speed in the game not just on the clock.

lol if ever there is a time to dream about rookies it's now.

And if you're going to dream dream big!

Mykel becomes our very own Reggie White but with the SBs rings.
Collins becomes Deforest Buckner but with better ability to play the run.
Martin is a Fred Warner clone and together they become our best LB duo with the SB rings to show for it too.
Stout turns into the modern day Darrell Green
CJ West is Bryant Young
Watkins is Jerry Rice
Jordan James is Frank Gore
Sigle is Ed Reed
Rourke is Brock Purdy(but hopefully we don't need him)
Colby is Brandon Scherff
Bergen is Devin Hester

Will wait on reality to slap me in the face.

That's what happens to most of us every year- reality slapping us in the face because either the rookies drafted gets injured or just total bust. Lol!

The odds are against getting a HOF WR outside Round 1. Since Jerry was drafted, TO is the only great WR not drafted in the first round (Moss, Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Harrison).

You have a couple of more months before reality hits.

It depends on how you determine "great". No question it's hard to find dominant WRs outside the first round, but you need players to fill out the roster too.

Players I would say were great and were not a 1st round pick since Jerry was drafted ... from memory:
Cris Carter
Isaac Bruce
Steve Smith
Anquan Boldin
Hines Ward
Antonio Brown
Davante Adams

Rod Smith and Wes Welker were un-drafted.

John Taylor, Ricky Watters, just to pull from our own garden.

I wouldn't call JT "great", and Ricky was a great RB (even though he was an incredible receiver)
