Had a rough game but I'd give the guy some slacks. I think we're all forgetting the guy had a shoulder surgery this off season

To be fair, he had good games last year. He's still very young so he can still improve and develop. But I admit he didn't play good this first preseason game. Actually, Valdez the hulk played better than him

Valdez has plenty of his own issues as well(I'm not really a fan tbh), but check out the difference between him and Collins specifically in how they fire off the ball. Valdez is firing off the ball and attacking his cue; Collins is catching instead of attacking. There's no man alive that can catch 600+ pounds of OL coming at them and hold their ground. You have to keep your technique tight in the trenches, or you're going to get steamrolled.

He just seems so clunky and slow, only excuse I can think of is he's not taking preseason seriously which would be fine but he has no explosion

Not taking it seriously. Then cut him.

Wouldn't take it that far. Raw means just that. You can't draft a guy knowing he is a project and let him.go after one year unless he's doing silly stuff. He just needs work and it may be awhile before we get what we hope for out of him. Now it makes sense why they were sniffing around for Vita Vea.

Outside of reps, if he sees 2026 DL guys passing him by maybe that will light a fire. It's amazing the difference with OL and DL In terms of the competition. There has almost always been legit competition on the D line, not so much with O line.

This is poor DL play in many ways. He's generating zero knockback and catching the double team instead of attacking his visual cue. Takes a horizontal step instead of a vertical step. Power zapped and ability to drop his weight immediately gone from that alone. Hands are outside. etc. Collins is negating his size and strength with s**t technique.

Reminds me of what the Eagles Oline did to Kinlaw a few years ago...

Also heres him on that td run..

KP echoing everything I said on the previous page

He'll be fine
Morris loves shorter, squatty DL. His favor for West was noted by one of the best writers. I wouldn't be surprised to see West start over Alfred.

Line 1, fully healthy: Bosa – West – Osa – Williams

Line 2: Height – Collins – Halton – Sam Okuayinonu

Rotation: White and the winner of the Eason, Thompson, Valdez competition.
Enough track record and growth from last season to not overreact to the 1st preseason game.

I'd like to have seen Eason play more snaps against the ones. He looked good in this tape, better than Thompson, and much better than Collins.

Overreact is what fans do on this forum. Both positively and negatively.

Definitely. I think he'll be okay over time but discipline is needed to consistently get low due to his height. I said earlier about a fire being lit- hopefully this is the case because there is competition all up and down the line. We have an interior of Osa, Halton, West, and Collins. There's pass rush and run stuffing. When Mykel gets back he could be included in that group on 3rd and long. The potential looks pretty good.

The problem, in my mind, is that in limited snaps agains the same players, Eason was doing the things that Collins should be doing. I think that speaks to Eason being a guy with a real shot to make the roster, but it also speaks to Collins not progressing with the way we all hoped. An UDFA should not be playing better than Collins. Collins should be making a big jump this year, and if he isn't showing that growth by the end of the camp, I sure would hate for a promising player like Eason or Thompson to be cut at the expense of giving Collins more time to figure his s**t out.

I guess but his feet and recognition are terrible. I'm not sure what a should had to do with that. He always seems off balance and slow.

I mean Halton missed a bunch of offseason time and is a rookie. Yet, he steps right in 1st game and looks pretty decent.

Well, it'll be what it'll be but collins as a 2nd rounder has been a massive disappointment

Disappointing is right. The 2025 draft was focused on DL and improving the defense. The run D was brutal in 2024. To miss on a second rounder this bad that cant even stop the run is unacceptable.

When Ledyard calls you out, you know it's bad.

Very much so. To the team's credit, the run D was good last year. But in year 2, you are kind of expecting a guy like Albert Collins to be leading the charge on stuffing the run. We'll see what happens in the next preseason game. I wish thetr were still four, with no 17th regular seasom game because I am doubting Collins plays in that final preseason game.
