This is pure stat chasing. Context matters here. Pearce was purely a pass rusher. He started 3 games this year and why...because he is Leonard Floyd 2.0. A tall lanky nickel down rusher. He is exactly what Huff was supposed to be here. A guy who was never supposed to play base downs because he can't defend the run.

Mykel was drafted to be a three down player. Someone who can seal the edge in the running game and pass rush outside and inside on the money downs.

Now this is an informed and educated post.

A rare and refreshing sight on the WZ.

Since he uses extreme power and brute force I don't know if he will be the same. That's a lot of your base and legs for power and foundation in the stance. If your leg is injured or prior injured will he be the same? We don't know. He does not play soft. So the leg needs to hold up strong and have power and durability. It may take a while to recover. Ability to play and being full strength and where you were at in the past are two different things.

Right because he's the first DE to have a clean ACL tear

He will return to form just as Bosa did

I hope so. But we will see. Bosa also seems more vulnerable to reinjury. He is now triple ACL over his whole football career. So this guy can have that happen too. He's more vulnerable. The coming back and getting up to speed will be a process too.
He tore his meniscus as well. My expectations are very low.

It's not as uncommon as you think. I asked AI to show how many guys in the last 10 years suffered that and these are the results including when they happened and approximate timeline to get back to playing

Kyler Murray 2022 ~11 months
JSN 2022 ~ 10 months
Joe Burrow 2020 ~ 9 months
Saquon Barkley 2020 ~ 11 months
Cooper Kupp 2018 ~ 10 months

So the range is a bit all over the place. AI is predicting Mykel likely won't be back until September/October due to his size and position he plays but obviously that's just projection and every player is different.

Regardless those players for the most part all came back less than a calendar year. The biggest bummer in all of this is Mykel is going to miss critical offseason/training camp time in arguably the most important offseason for a young player. I trust he'll get as much work in as he can, especially if he continues to be around Nick.

But either way i wouldn't worry about the meniscus part as much. Most of those guys came back to be even better than they were before.

I don't agree. I definitely have concerns over meniscus injuries especially with bigger defensive lineman carrying more weight than the players you listed.

All due respect…take it up with the AI.

Certainly dont get it from AI bot posters that don't remember what they posted 9 months.

For what it's worth for the "oh no we should've taken Pearce instead of Mykel" crowd. I went and looked at his sacks from this season...4 of them were clean, where he actually beats his guy and takes the QB down.

The rest were either clean up sacks from QB holding onto the ball or scrambling out of the pocket, plays where he's unblocked or plays where he's coming in on a stunt with other guys pushing the QB to him.

In all of them he's getting one on one matchups. I think I saw one play where he got chipped by the TE...ironically helping him work inside on a stunt.

These would not be opportunities he'd have here without Bosa.

This is still one of the craziest plays of 2025. I don't think I've ever seen an true end bump inside, take on a double team, beat it and tackle the ball carrier for a loss. Like HUH?! They've got 300+ pound IDL that can't do this. I love Mykel's ferocity in the finish. I need that same urgency when he's rushing the passer. That alone will start racking up sacks.

I think for older fans we remember this with names like Dent, and white...guys that were so darn good they got to pick their match ups or got time over center in the 46. It was crazy then, still is now
That's still the best play DL play of the 2025 season in my eyes(yes, better than Collins at the goalline within the scope of pure DL play).

The second he went down our defense took a hit . I really like his upside .

I wonder if Atlanta would say his overall production was worth the price they paid to draft him. Unfortunately, the Rams are LOVING the deal.

From what I have observed, Williams, in his limited time, had far greater overall impact than has Pearce.

Considering he was more productive than the #2 pick at de I'd say the falcons were fine with it

Falcons hit with their picks from the trade at least so far - Pearce and Watts were great picks for them.

Pearce would not be a great pick for us. Atlanta had a ton of pass rushers who allowed Pearce to get lots of one on one matchups that he took advantage of.

Jalon Walker, Leonard Floyd, Zach Harrison and even good pass rushing DTs in Ruke Orhorhoro and huge year from Brandon Dorlus.

The 49ers were lookinhg for versatility and Williams showed that. He was very good at stopping the run. That was the thing the Niners wanted to improve on this season. Once Bosa was injured and Collins and West were slowed by lingering injuries Williams was moved all over the line.He was showing steady progress even while having to learn different positions.

He just bullied his way through two linemen at the same time and manhandled the RB. I can't wait till he's healthy in his 2nd year

Im not a Pearce over Mykell guy but keep that same energy with Mykell. Most of Mykells pressure and everything was this.
