Which week 1 roster is better this year or last year (2023 vs 2024)

Minus - we lost some guys on defensive line, Hufanga & Greenlaw injured.

Plus - Puni is way better. TW and Aiyuk now signed. Two young safety's who fly all around making tackles and playing the ball. Looks like we have the future even without Hufanga. Dee Winters is really fast and makes tackles. But not as stout at the point of attack as Greenlaw. Brock Purdy in his 3rd year. That's usually the biggest jump for a QB. He was already excellent. CB is deeper and better. In fact an area where we historically struggle is a strength now.

Honestly we should be better on paper. TW needs to hold up. Hopefully Deebo too. No major injuries on the offensive line. Defensive line free agents play up to billing. That's a lot. But if those fall into place we are probably better.

I was kind of curious how other QB's have fared in their career:

--- Pat Mahomes: His spike was actually year 2. 5000, 50 TD season, after essentially redshirting behind Alex.
--- Peyton Manning: Started all his Year 1 games. Year 2 was an improvement, and then year 3 improved on that. Was steady and then took off around year 7.
--- Tom Brady: Backup in year 1. Year 2 and 3 were similar, but he had an increase in yardage in year 3.
--- Aaron Rodgers: Didn't start in his first three years, taking over in year 4. Was pretty good his first couple years, but had significant strides in year 7 when he had his MVP season.

Trying to think of who else had a comparable start... Feels like Mahomes and Brady were the most similar though, sitting for most/all their first year. I think there's a lot to be optimistic about though... since this is the first year Purdy has had a proper offseason as starter.
You'd think this team lost all its good players with the amount of hate this team is getting right now. Pretty wild stuff
It's close. Right now I'd say this year's team. I think we are deeper at a couple of positions like receiver and Cornerback. Brock should improve some with the added weapons. I think the addition of Puni will help the o-line. RB and TE's are about even, and D-line is also close with perhaps a slight edge to last year. I'd say the only only positions we are a little lacking at is Safety and LB. That is at least until Dre and Huff return. If those two can return and play at a somewhat high level, while the rest of the team stays relatively healthy, I would give the edge to this year's team. If tone of those three things doesn't happen, then last year probably gets the edge.

I think this year team is slightly less. Considering wear and age.

I'm not going to worry about that until it becomes obvious on the field.

I find that this team is largely the same as last year's... slight improvements in some positions, slight weakening in others.
Largely, this is still a top 3, arguably best, roster in the league... one of the best coached teams in the league... veteran team, experienced... And we have our QB.

Really, unless we have a number of major injuries and/or the team has a collective hangover (which CAN happen), this team should make the playoffs... this team should make a deep playoff run. That's all you can really ask for... and then you see what happens in that NFFCG... in that Super Bowl.
