Hmm I see. Wondering what they would do to repair it. It would make sense if the approach was different if it was contact vs a stressed injury but a complete tear seems like a tear is a tear is a tear no matter how it happened. Idk I guess that's why there are doctors to figure out stuff like this lol.
I think what really effects the repair is how jacked up the ligament is.
The reason traditional Tommy Johns sucks is they completely remove the Ligament from the elbow and graft in a ligament from a cadaver (they remove the elbow ligament from a dead person) then they coax the elbow to grow blood supply to the new ligament. That takes a very long time (for the timeline of sports) sometimes multiple seasons. Like I said earlier, my buddy had it done...it was 2 years for him. He is not a pro-athlete....but there are plenty of pro-athletes that have taken even longer.
There is at least two medical centers that have changed procedure and have guys throwing baseballs again at 10 weeks.
The upside to TJS... there is no more wear and tear baggage on the new ligament. So Pitchers in baseball normally come back stronger then before the surgery. It can be a win-win in baseball.
It has not happened often enough in Football to get a real baseline on what current medical advances can do for Brock, but from what I was reading this 6 month number might be possible for Brock.
Whatever happens, I think this will be telling for Football, I expect Brock will work his tail off to come back better then ever. In years to come people will refer back to Brock for how you come back from a complete ligament tear, or why you can't come back the same from a complete ligament tear.
My money is Brock will be fine.
