For me the way Mac played last night just reinforces my points about Brock (over the past couple pages). Take whats there, get rid of the ball especially on those early downs for positive yardage. You don't need to play hero ball all game.

playing on time and in rhythm. That's where he's at his best, he's not Josh Allen or Jackson who spend most of their snaps extending plays and playing out of structure. He's just gotta be smarter about all of it.

Not gonna get into the "hero ball all game" hyperbole but you know this is the Jimmy G/Nick Mullens game plan vs the Rams right? Except this Rams D is weak in their back 7. Styles make fights and Mac was a great QB for how they're built.

But I do hope that Brock sees the result of that game and remembers that against some teams you can win a game dinking and dunking and getting the ball out quick. We've seen Brock do that before so we know he can do it. But it won't work that way against every team out there.

Super concerned about this big contract we gave Purdy this summer, who looks pedestrian, at best, over the last 12+ games or so. His decision making, throwing off his back foot, arm strength and accuracy are all reasons for concern.

Dear Brock, it's time for you to prove to us you were worth this contract. We need to see more moxie from you and much better overall play. We need a winner we to lead this team. Mac has played with great heart and grit and shown great leadership in your absence. It's now time for you to step-up and do what garnered your huge contract.

You know you don't speak for everyone right?

Need more moxie and heart...you mean like the guy who led us to a game winning drive against a top 5 defense in the league, one of the toughest places to play after losing his top 2 targets in the game? Oh and he did it on a toe injury that is going to keep him out for 3 games at minimum.

Not to mention he clearly played in a game he never should've been playing in vs the Jags and now has you and others killing him for it even though the team let him down as well.

This is a team game. Mac Jones as great as he played isn't winning that game on his own.

Yea I'm with you here. Brock earned that contract prior to this season so there is nothing to prove, "gotta earn it" that is media talk. He got what he deserved based on starting QB contract worth. Brock just needs to get healthy and he also needs better protection out there, we almost got down to our no-named 3rd string QB against the rams. We have other things to worry about than Purdy IMO.

They can't just be satisfied that a young QB has had a great run followed by a little inconsistency. No, they have to kick him to the curb at the first sign of difficulty.

that is just this forum.....not 49er fans.

Fans root for team success no matter who the player. Right now Mac is having success for the team and Brock has been a turnover machine with a bad record over the last year.

Brock has the skill set, hopefully he is learning from these games and can adjust some of his bad habits
Here's an interesting comparison someone on YouTube was discussing this morning:

Mac Jones playing with scrubs but obviously hurt is balling out verse a healthy Purdy in 2024 playing with scrubs who was just mediocre. 🤔🤔🤔

I looked at his contract after 2027 we don't have much dead cap if they want to move on.

Not saying it will happen, but they have outs the way his money is structured.
When you factor in what we are paying Brock vs Mac and the differences between the 2, Brock's contract is already a huge fail. They won't be able to trade Brock, who would be dumb enough to take him?

A few posters here are in complete and utter shambles after Macs performances this season thus far.

Mac playing with scrubs VS Purdy playing with scrubs is a night and day difference. Too small of a sample size from Mac tho so we'll see what happens.

Difference is when purdy plays with scrubs he is a scrub, Mac elevates his game when he doesn't have the players he needs and make due with what he has, we already saw who purdy is when you take away his talented team, that was last year and we saw how that went and still paid him… stupid but at least we can get out of it after 2 years, smartest thing they did

I guess i'm not surprised to see this type of stuff in this thread.

Mac Jones was a first round pick for a reason and it's not cuz he's without talent. But the overreaction to an injured Purdy playing poorly vs a really good Jags defense which we clearly overlooked is insane.

This is the same blueprint we used vs the Rams many times before with Jimmy G and Nick Mullens.

This passing chart shows that

I don't want to take anything away from Mac. He played his ass off. Quick throws, good decisions, it was a masterclass given who was out there with him. But dismissing what Purdy has done when not clearly hampered by an injury throwing off his mechanics isn't it. Not when he's got a large track record with this team including big time play in the postseason.

This year Purdy is 1-1 with so called scrubs. Unless somehow having Pearsall but losing Jennings and Kittle early/mid game vs a Seattle defense constantly pressuring him isn't sufficient enough for the scrub talk. The second game the main guy for Mac in the Rams game had 3 drops including a monster one and the two had almost no practice time together.

I hope Mac keeps playing great and winning games but this need to pretend Purdy can't get it done without studs everywhere is ridiculous.

I mean Purdy showed he couldn't get it done without studs everywhere last year so I don't know It wouldn't be as bad as it is if he wasn't a turnover machine now.

Just ignore that part.
Brock saved the org from the Lance pick.

Jones is a straight up street dawg.

But, the one that needed to be kept was Darnold. Strong arm and moves.
Brock will get more chances this year (unless the toe injury is worse than believed and he goes on IR) to prove he is still a great QB that can lead this team to glory.

If he falters, then that is on him, and we shouldn't hesitate if we know that Mac Jones is the better QB. But I think for now we should just let things play out this year. By the end of it, as long as injuries don't derail everything, we should know how best to proceed and we can discuss it like crazy on here.

I would have like to see Zach Wilson as a reclamation project under Kyle. He may be shot now though.

Once again 2024 is not comparable to 2025.

Here is at least one comparison for 2025 which includes Purdy playing on the bad toe which clearly impacted his accuracy.
