QB Brock Purdy Thread

BCB QB1, keep Lunch Trey as backup but convert him to a TE and he can do some Tayson Hill stuff... Jimmy is the odd man out and only reason we let him go is due to being locked into TL's contract unless we can pawn him off for some draft picks

The cap/dead money hits we would take pre-2025 would prevent any such move. Trey Lance is here through 2024 at least.

If BCB leads the team into a deep playoff run, we could trade Lance to recoup some picks and bring back Jimmy on a reasonable contract as back up.

As wonderful as that would be, I don't see it happening. Jimmy wants to play and this off season he will be able to find a suitor because he will be healthy.

We would incur that even if we traded him to another team?

I do think Purdy was drafted too late for what he's worth, but this is not a good checklist. Josh Allen only checked one of these boxes coming out of Wyoming—barely.
just to add on for our younger guys

Bill Parcells was an absolute HOF coach, but he was no savant or draft guru.

He screwed up the draft as much if not more then most other winning coaches. He won in lots of places and i think took 3 different Franchises to Conference finals.

He was the Lebron of the NFL playoffs. Didn't always win, but he built teams for the post season.

So let's not make his rules out to be "the way". It is a way...but not the only way.

As I understand it, if he is not on the roster on June 1, 2023, we would incur a $20,153,107 dead money charge and a cap hit of $10,851,673, per Overthecap.com.

To be fair those rules don't really exist anymore in college football. 99% of the time if you're a high end college QB, you're not staying there for 4 yrs.

...and how has that worked out for those that came out early?

To be fair, there are a few exceptions but most struggled mightily in their first couple of years.

Im not advocating trading him or not. But his cap hit if traded is only 11 mil pre June. And 5.5 post June.

If he is released which isn't going to happen us when we get to the 20 mil range
if we could recoup some decent draft picks by trading Lance then it would be worth the cap hit... like 5 5th rounders

Salty Jimmy fans still salty.
IMO why Shanny likes BCB more than Jimmy.... more book smart that translates to his play

"Purdy finished his career with 8,937 passing yards and 107 touchdowns while averaging a 3.8 GPA."

In one of the brick by brick episodes at the beginning of the season, Kyle in a meeting talked about how later in the season they're going to have to play 3 games in 12 days and how incredibly difficult that is to do. Well those was these last 3 games and they absolutely demolished each team, all of whom were either the leaders in their division or were fighting for the division lead. These were no 1-7 Raiders he was going up against. Purdy's 2 starts were against defensive coaches who have won a super bowl as a coach or as coordinator with a dominant defense. And he didn't throw a single pass in practice this past week because of how banged up he was.

i think he needs to win the superbowl so that we don't flirt with the idea of signing tom brady next year
one play that stuck out to me..

3rd and 7, inside our own 4 yard line, Purdy in the gun standing in the end zone, throws a dart to Jennings for a first down

the magnitude of that play with the crowd noise right behind his ear on an obvious passing down is ELITE level

Nobody is going to offer enough draft capital to make the cap hit worthwhile until they see how Lance can play.

Many were shocked he was chosen as high as he was given his lack of experience. To date, he has not done much to dispel those concerns. For now, the best play is to consider the 49ers have a high-quality starter, Brock, and a backup with high potential, Lance, and a low cap figure for the combination.
