If BCB leads the team into a deep playoff run, we could trade Lance to recoup some picks and bring back Jimmy on a reasonable contract as back up.

As wonderful as that would be, I don't see it happening. Jimmy wants to play and this off season he will be able to find a suitor because he will be healthy.

Trade Lance to the Dolphins for Tyreke and pick(s). MIA accepts as insurance for Tua whose career is in limbo from concussion(s)

Purdy + Tyreke + CMC + Deebo + Kittle + Aiyuk + Juice + Jennings + improved OL = Greatest Show on Grass

40 pts avg / game
2023 Championship
I think Brock Purdy is what coaches and scouts thought Baker Mayfield was supposed to be. Mayfield is a bust, but remember he was the number 1 overall pick back in 2018. Scouts must have thought a 6 feet QB with good mobility can succeed in the NFL.

Nobody is going to offer enough draft capital to make the cap hit worthwhile until they see how Lance can play.

Many were shocked he was chosen as high as he was given his lack of experience. To date, he has not done much to dispel those concerns. For now, the best play is to consider the 49ers have a high-quality starter, Brock, and a backup with high potential, Lance, and a low cap figure for the combination.

This is how I see it working out if Purdy continues to play strong the rest of the year.

JG is gone and they will go into next season with Purdy and Trey. KS will say its a competition, but Purdy will be seen as the true #1 QB. Purdy will win the starting position and Trey the backup. They use Trey on certain scenarios where he can use his mobility and give the NFL a look at how dangerous he can be (Trade Bait). The following year is when they might make a trade if they find a good offer, else they just go into the following year with more of the same.

Trey will have an opportunity though to win the starting position if he is patient and makes the best of those opportunities.

Except for one magical 98 yard drive last Thursday but yeah for everything else he's a bust.

If Purdy had Mayfield's arm he would have been a first round pick.
I remember when the San Francisco Chronicle came up with a "give Joe Montana a nickname" contest after he won the 1981 Super Bowl and became the toast of the town. It didn't work. Joe was just Joe. Or, Joe Cool.

Who is going to start the "Let's Give Brock Purdy a Nickname" Thread? Myself? I kind of like Brocktacular. But there are so many others.

The Nickname only works if the players around him start to use it.

one play that stuck out to me..

3rd and 7, inside our own 4 yard line, Purdy in the gun standing in the end zone, throws a dart to Jennings for a first down

the magnitude of that play with the crowd noise right behind his ear on an obvious passing down is ELITE level

Game situation, crowd noise, field position - I think that was his best play of the night.

It's already been assigned. Kittle did a touchdown celebration honoring the nickname when Brock ran it in for a touchdown during the Bucs game.
before Purdy became BCB the team called him "Baby Bosa"... don't think that one has stuck

BCB works for everyone.

The cap/dead money hits we would take pre-2025 would prevent any such move. Combined $30M in 2023. Trey Lance is here through 2024 at least.

We would incur that even if we traded him to another team?

As I understand it, if he is not on the roster on June 1, 2023, we would incur a $20,153,107 dead money charge and a cap hit of $10,851,673, per Overthecap.com.

Could the contract be renegotiated (if we were going to trade him) so the team trading for him takes that dead cap hit?
