I mean it's not good for us but it's funny.
I haven't met one person who said Jimmy G was a crown jewel unless it was during that end of 2017 period

I think if he was healthy, Jimmy would have went ahead of those guys. Just bad timing with the surgery and everything.

I don't know, offering them 3 draft picks, a 2nd and two 3rd's, A QB they badly need, and agreeing to take on Darnold's contract might be too enticing to turn down. There is no way they want to go into next season with Darnold as their QB and do they really want to trust a rookie QB that will need time to develop? And might not even be any good? This deal would take that decision out of their hands.

I see where you going with this, but aside from denigrating Jimmy's character, I wonder even if he didn't have surgery if the Niners could have cut him without triggering the $7.5m guarantee for injury. We may need someone like AB (or another contract expert) to chime in, but pretty sure if Jimmy didn't get the surgery and we cut him 03/16 (pretty sure that was the beginning of the league year,) he wouldn't have passed a physical and thus the guarantee for injury would have been triggered anyway.
So his decision to get surgery wouldn't have changed where we are right now anyway.
You do know Jimmy G never failed a physical, right?
Understood. That really wasn't what I was trying to convey, though.
I was saying that regardless of the surgery (ie. Jimmy doesn't get surgery), if we cut Jimmy before the NTC expired, I think we still would have been on the hook for the $7.5m (guarantee for injury) because he would be in the middle of re-habbing his shoulder and thumb and thus would not have passed a physical.
So him getting the surgery, really didn't impact the Niners situation because without a trade partner, he is stuck on our roster until he passes a physical. Which he couldn't do - even before electing to get surgery - because he ended the season with the shoulder and thumb issues.
The only way to know he would fail a physical would be to take a physical no?
assumptions are not facts, he did not take a physical so how does anyone know he would have failed a physical?
Here's what we do know:
- We traded multiple first round picks and a 3rd round pick to draft T. Lance in the first round (#3 overall) of the draft last year.
- No team wanted to trade for Jimmy
- Jimmy's no trade clause expired when the new league year started
- Getting surgery activated Jimmy's Injury clause
- Jimmy didn't have surgery until one week before free agency (New League year)
- Trade discussions usually happen at the scouting combine (agents and F/O folks generally figure out what the trade market is)
- Jimmy is still on our team with a injury settlement attached to his contract
- Jimmy never took a physical (so he didn't fail a physical)

They didn't get a single trade offer for their quarterback. Speaks volumes about how the league thinks of him.#49wz
Welp there it is. No one offered a damn thing

Still don't think there's a possibility that Jimmy starts the season on the 49ers roster?
