San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters Monday, one day after the team's 32-29 Week 5 win over the Seattle Seahawks, providing several injury updates.
The biggest setback was to wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who suffered a hamstring strain.
"He got it pretty good, so he's going to miss some time," Shanahan said.
Samuel's injury is another blow to a 49ers receiving corps already dealing with multiple absences, including Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson and rookie De'Zhaun Stribling. Mike Evans has also been playing through a rib injury.
Samuel suffered the injury on a left-side run in the third quarter. He was tackled and fumbled the football, which the Seahawks recovered. After remaining on the ground briefly, Samuel limped off the field and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game.
Shanahan was asked if Samuel missing time means that Brandin Cooks' role might increase in the coming weeks.
"Well, yeah," Shanahan said. "We have five guys on the roster, and Deebo being out, that would be four, so the next guys up to get activated would be one of the three guys on the practice squad. Because also, in that game, Jake (Cowing) went down with an ankle.
"He ended up being all right, but the numbers got low real quick, so that's why we always like to get five up for game day, and we've got four guys on our roster, so we'll most likely decide on one of those guys throughout the week."
Linebacker Garret Wallow also sustained a hamstring strain.
"Wallow's in the same boat," Shanahan said. "Not quite as bad as Deebo's, but he's going to miss at least a couple of weeks also."
Nick Bosa injury update
Shanahan also provided an update on defensive end Nick Bosa, who missed his third straight game Sunday with a calf injury.
Bosa could return for the 49ers' Week 6 home game against the Washington Commanders.
"We know he's got a chance," Shanahan said.
The team will evaluate his progress throughout the week before deciding whether he's available.
Kyle Juszczyk and James Thompson Jr. injury updates
Bosa isn't the only player who could return against Washington. Shanahan said fullback Kyle Juszczyk and defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. also have a chance to play in Week 6.
"I think him (Bosa), Juszczyk, and James Thompson are all kind of in the same boat," Shanahan said. "They've all got a chance, but definitely not saying they're good to go right now. We've got to continue to evaluate them throughout the week, and it'll take all week, but hopefully they can get there."
Juszczyk has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury in Week 4, while Thompson is working through an ankle injury.
