#3 B. I'm not going to judge too hard on the Lance selection. You have to let this play out and trust in the process. He is a really intriguing prospect, but if I am in win now mode with this team, I dont think I give up that much capital to move up to 3. The hindsight of seeing that Slater and Mac Jones would have been available at 12, and even Fields with a minor trade up to 11, stings. I was higher on Fields than Lance. and thought Slater would be an instant impact player.
#48 B-. Banks was chosen too high in my opinion. The next guards off the board are nearly 40 spots higher, and I had Kendrick Green at 87 rated higher than Banks. The trade down to acquire another pick was a smart move, but Moerig, Samuel, and Joseph are starring you right in the face there at 43 as potential starters in the secondary. How about BPA with Owusu Koramoah? Rondale Moore? Terrance Marshall? Banks still projects to be a starting guard at some point during the year, and given the huge need there, I can't hate on the pick too much.
#88 C. Didn't see the need to go RB here. With Mostert, Gallman, Wilson, I didnt see RB as a pressing need. You've got Ronnie Perkins sitting right there at a position of need. Would have been on the phone trying to include another 5th rounder to move up for Adebo as well. You know EDGE and CB, the 2 positions we need. WRs St-Brown and Nico Collins would have made alot of sense as well. I'm sure Sermon gets carries and puts up some numbers in this offense. But the logic of needing RBs because guys got injured last year is just as applicable to WRs.
#102 C. Ambry Thomas is a project. Size/Speed metrics are fantastic, and I agree that he is a natural reactor with the ball in the air, but he is raw. Inexperienced, doesnt show much aggressiveness tackling. Wasnt impressed at all with his special teams tape. Barring injury, I dont see him making much of an impact in year one. Now down the line, he may develop and provide some real value.
#155 C+. First, I'm a bit confused why this was the next pick. There's only a few roster spots left on this team and we make 8 draft picks? This was a prime opportunity to move as we did with #88. Use 2 5ths to get into the 4th. Tylan Wallace would have been great value. Back to EDGE with Cam Sample or Rumph. Maybe a flier on Brevin Jordan. Even at 155, WR Smith-Marsette is there! I like Jaylon Moore. I had a 4th round grade on him, so there's value here. Good developmental player that will serve in a backup role. I see him getting moved to guard but offers tackle flexibility. By himself a really good pick. just dont like all the associated circumstances.
#172 B+. No problem with selecting another CB. Huge position of need. I dont think Lenoir is our prototypical outside corner. He is average height, with short arms. But he could be developed in a zone nickel corner and replace Kwaun Williams next year. Still going to question why we didnt parlay this pick and move up and get a Robert Rochelle, Shaun Wade, or Marco Wilson if we were after another corner.
#180 A. Barring the injury history, this is a great pick simply because Hufanga will make this team. Immediate special teams contributor, which I would be happy enough with at pick 180. But safety is also a position of need, and I think Hufanga just impresses you out on the field. Doesnt have all the metrics, but just has a nose for getting after the football. Might have enough in him to get in some situational packages and could even have some spy linebacker flexibility.
#194 C. The C is not for Elijah Mitchell himself. I commented several times on him as a late round RB target. Great athlete that could be developed. Homerun speed and potential receiving out of the backfield. But after the Sermon pick we were loaded. How many RBs are we going to carry? Mostert, Wilson, Gallman, Sermon, Mitchell, Hasty. Not 6. Maybe a trade can resolve this situation.
Drafting a QB is a long-term investment...not a "win now" mode thing, especially when you still have a QB that just went to the SB on the roster. They were able to maintain the roster via FA.
Lance could be a super star with Kyle. I see no reason as to why he can't.
Who are Moerig, Samuel, and Joseph starting over? The starters were all there before the draft started....I don't see how you can complain about "win now" then spend a pick in the 2nd for a player that probably doesn't start? Banks is a plug and play RG starter day 1.
I like Green a ton as well, BUT you have no idea when he goes. We can't play Capitan hindsight when it comes to the draft. Just go get your guy.
Shaun Wade

I was confused about the RB pick. love the player just didn't think it made sense.
Why is Ambry Thomas a project?
Gallman has no money GTD I don't see him making the team, Hasty to the PS again. Mostert/Wilson/Sermon/Mitchell.
Yes, QB is a long term investment. In this case, a super long term investment as there no first round picks for the next 2 years either. I didn't say anything bad about Lance, and I agree that he could be a super star with Kyle. It's a bold move that I hope pays off. And I give the pick a decent grade. But if its me, I'm keeping 12, the pile of future firsts, and letting it play out for Fields/Jones/Slater/Tucker.
I said Moerig, Samuel, and Joseph are potential starters in the secondary. Verrett's averaging about 8 games a year. Moseley and Johnson aren't exactly stalwarts. Tartts been on IR every year. I don't think its a reach to think that a second round defensive back wouldnt see half a season of playing time in his first year.
I agree that you have to get your guy. But draft grades are done with hindsight. And I had Green rated higher, or at least in the same tier. And if you have multiple guys you grade the same, you can afford to move back. Now obviously the 49ers like Banks more, and I give them credit for making one minor move. The overall grade for the Banks pick wasnt bad. Just didnt wow me.
Say what you want about Wade. I'm not big on him either, but we are talking about a corner in the 5th round. He projects much better as nickel zone corner than he did on the outside at OSU. And you are talking about a guy that had been viewed at one point as having first round talent. The Ravens seem to draft as well as anybody and with Peters and Humphrey on the outside, they probably view Wade in that slot role. I bet he out performs his draft position in Baltimore.
Ambry is a one year starter. He's only 183 pounds and probably played even lighter. He needs to get much stronger to play on the outside. See the tape against Claypool. He has good man skills, but is weak in zone, which historically we have played a ton of. Poor tackling fundamentals, and drifts out of space too much.
You might be right about Gallman, but there is obviously an unbalanced roster when you are cutting a RB with nearly 600+ yards last year, 6 TDs, 4.6 average, and only one receiver on the roster that had 600+ yards last year. Hopefully Hurd is healthy.
