🏆 SF 49ERS vs KC CHIEFS PREGAME THREAD - SUPER BOWL LIV 🏆

Once in a lifetime. who would've thought Patrick Willis and Justin Smith would only get one crack at it. Rodgers the list goes on and on. I believe this organization has learned from last time where as the chiefs are still star struck.

Agree. I've been lucky enough to go to a few. It's a cool experience to have once, but most of the people there are not the fans of the teams and it waters down the experience for the team's hardcore fans. If I was going to shell out a lot of money to go a game now I'd go to a conference championship game. Much more intense football experience. But if you want all the spectacle and see celebrities and TV personalities, that's what the Super Bowl is more about.

The gap between our Offense and their Offense is not even close to the gap between our D and their D.

Several pundits have literally said he is the best QB to ever play the game. He's passing it better than Cam was in his MVP season but Cam was also running the ball a lot more.

Denver's D shut down Cam.
Seattle shut down Manning.
Giants shut down Brady...twice.
Pats shut down Goff and their high-powered O.

Mahomes will get his but let's not act like high powered offenses haven't been stopped in some recent SBs when playing against great Ds. Everyone's acting like Mahomes cannot be slowed down at all.

There is no gap between our offense and their offense. Our offense is slightly better overall. People are looking at their passing offense and giving them an edge without looking at the 2 offense's as a whole.

I agree. I just think that they have the best player on O and that they probably have a slight edge there.

However, our O does not play against their O and our QB does not play against their QB. People seem to forget that.

Our D is vastly superior and we all know that when all else fails, the Defense and the run game travel.

Dominate time of possession, keep the defense fresh and pin your ears back when the chiefs look to pass. People like to point out the chiefs stopped henry but we don't play that game. The Titans also gave him the ball 3 times in the second half and decided to try and have Tannehill win a game for them. lol
Go 49ers

2015 Panthers scored 80 points in 2 playoff games. 5 point favorites over Denver. Lost 24-10
2013 Broncos, the most prolific offense in NFL history at the time. 2.5 point favorites over Seattle. Lost by 35.
2018 Patriots v LA Rams, 57.5 point over, the highest ever for a Super Bowl, Pats win 13-3.

Granted Mahomes has already been anointed the great QB of all time, combining Peyton, Brady, Elway and Young into one unstoppable package but I still like the 49ers front 4.

The 2013 line was lol stupid, I couldn't believe the Broncos were favored in that game. There are some similarities between that game and this. I don't think the 49ers defense this year is quite up to the level as the 2013 Seahawks, but it's still very good. More importantly, the 49ers offense this year is significantly better than Seattle's from that year.

But equally as interesting is comparing the Chiefs to that Denver team. Denver had a fairly decent defense that year with Von Miller rushing the QB, I don't see the Chiefs being 2013 Denver's equal in that regard. Regarding the offense, that Denver team scored over 600 points. Denver was regarded as "the explosive team" that Seattle wasn't going to be able to handle. I couldn't believe the media was disregarding that Seattle defense which was, in my opinion, the best defense we had seen since 2002 Tampa.
Maybe warm weather will throw em off, maybe andy will have indigestion from a narly hot dog or five, never know
Our D's strength is against the pass. That matches up evenly against their strength. EVEN
Our O's strength is our running game. It also matches up well with their D's weakness. +2 49ers
Their O's weakness is the run. Our D matches up well against that as well. +1 49ers
Our O's weakness is the pass. Their D matches evenly with us. EVEN

So I would it will take extraordinary effort for the Chiefs to win. Special plays, out of the ordinary mistakes, etc.
Mahomes has the sandlot quality and arm strength of a Brett Favre, and the ability to extend plays of Russell Wilson. He will definitely be a challenge. I don't think he throws as well, or is as savvy, as Russell Wilson, though. I think we probably won't have multiple sacks because selling out to sack him is where he frequently burns a defense. I think might get a couple, maybe from blitzes, but should try to maintain a disciplined, steadily collapsing pocket that doesn't allow him to break contain. Randomly blitz a corner or backer from time to time. If he steadily has, say, four seconds, rather than breaking contain and buying ten seconds, then I think we can outscore the Chiefs. Make Mahomes play as a traditional passer and take away his greatest asset, his ability to improvise.

I really think this is the best, most sound strategy.

This. It's a team sport. They might have the edge QB to QB, but we have everything else. What we did to MIN and GB...is just demoralizing. Reid's tendencies of pass happy stuff and neglecting the run had always bit him. Running the ball and playing D has never been hallmarks of his teams, as great of a offensive guy that he is. SF is the more complete team and if we own TOP and the TO battle, I can't see them winning. They might hang 30 on at the most. They can't do much more than that if SF puts together 8-9 min TD drives.

Agreed. I think Bosa and Ford have to be disciplined on the edges and not get too far upfield. Saleh may restrict how much freedom they have when rushing the passer. It's AA and Buckner that could be the focal point here. If those two can push the interior OL back into Mahomes face that could make it uncomfortable to throw. And when he looks to escape, run into Bosa's and Ford's waiting arms.
