they just beat 8-0.. they can play with anyone. if we do not have sanders its tough if we can not run the ball its double tough. fans should not be so arrogant to think. oh we are fine. we will walk to the divisional title

it's not that "it's fine" but these guys got it - they do, we've all seen it. they have IT to win it all this year. i think yesterday's missed field goal will be the play of the 49ers season. without it, this young team doesn't learn. now they're in check. let's see how they respond, but i think they ultimately respond very well.

the 20 second drive giving wilson another shot while losing containment on him was the key series. general f**k ups all the way around by a team said by many to be the best team in the nfl

i think they will prove to be the best team in the nfl... and largely because of this game

It's just hindsight bias.

Instead of going for it on 4th and 1, Shanahan kicked a field goal. It didn't work out. He was criticized for being too conservative.

On our 2nd possession in overtime, Shanahan had bold play calls. He wasn't worried about the clock, he was worried about winning the game. He was criticized for being too aggressive.
I dont mind the loss, it WILL be a learning experience and hopefully reignite the drive this team had to start out the year and seemingly dampened the past couple weeks since the panthers blowout.

What I mind is what we lost in terms of personnel. All those guys go down and KS still kept forcing square pegs into round holes. The creativity from the first 6 weeks of the season was nowhere to be found. Staley sucked but how many Clowner replays showed a TE or FB trying to block him... like WTF? Thats just a horrid gameplan and he never adjusted.

I can agree there. If your argument is one or 2 runs to hedge your bet that's fine.

Right. Just sucks we gave the ball back that much time
Anyone else hate the new overtime rule. It makes it possible for the game to be won by the coin toss winner if they score a TD. The other team doesn't even get the ball. They should at least have the opportunity to respond with a TD.

Jimmy had an interception called back on the 3rd play of the game on defensive holding.
Later in that drive there was a very ticky-tacky DPI to extend the drive.
We were gifted a free sack in overtime when Wilson escaped an Armstead sack.
Really questionable unnecessary roughness call on our punt returner late in the game.
Really questionable unnecessary roughness call on a Garoppolo sack.
Two near-interceptions on the final drive of the 4th -- Jimmy got very luck. He looked totally overwhelmed.

Seattle was called for 148 yards in penalties. We only had 66.

Honestly, it was so lopsided, that if the uniforms were switched, someone on this message board would probably go to YouTube and compile all of the stuff into a video, a la the infamous 2013 NFCCG.

We did have some bad breaks. Jimmy fumbled twice on sacks. The dropped pass interception was a backbreaker. However, we also had a pretty fluke fumble TD by Buckner, and the Metcalf fumble at the 2-yard line was a HUGE fluke. Also, Wilson never throws interceptions, and yet he gifted us one in the Red Zone in overtime.

Just really frustrating overall. As bad as our drops were, we had a LOT of things go our way. With the exception of the spot late in overtime (which we did get screwed on), I felt like we had a significant number of breaks go our way.

I also think the calls went the 49ers way of most of the night. You listed many of them. There were two calls that had it been against the 49ers I would have been furious. One was the helmet to helmet hit on Jimmy, the other Wilson being in the grasp when he scrambled away. There were some others but those were the two I remember most.

It's better than it used to be where a team can win the coin toss, get the ball, and kick a field goal to end it.

Under the old rule if the coin toss winner kicked a FG the other team got the ball but had to score a TD, they couldn't kick a FG and tie it up again. That was a lot more fair. Not sure why they changed it but I guess it had something to do with safety like every other rule change.

Really? I thought they changed it so that teams couldn't win the toss, get the ball, kick a FG and end the game, without the other team ever getting the ball.

Would rather them play it like an extra quarter and make it 15 minutes again.

I think there were two changes in recent years. You're talking about the rule that was in place for many years where first score in OT wins which is what got a lot of people pissed off.

I'm ok with the current rule but I probably wouldn't be if our defense was trash :D

Shame our replacement kicker couldn't make the game winner.

its better than the old rule of whoever won the coin toss won. Would I like a college system? Maybe but I'll take this OT rules over the past
