Hat tip to Kocurek. Relatively speaking, I think this was the least talented group he's had since he got here, and they still produced. This offseason is going to be huge for Drake Jackson. He needs to hit the weights and work on his hands.

Also, the 49ers need to find a nose/IDL this offseason. Javon Kinlaw f**king sucks. We really missed DJ Jones this year. Hopefully, they can find someone that's over 300 lbs with some explosiveness that can reset the line of scrimmage, eat/defeat doubles and put a little pressure from time to time when they get a pass rush opportunity.

Drake really needs to hit the weight room. He has freakish athleticism and size but somehow still looks soft like a kid growing up. We have to hope he can develop into the bookend for Bosa.

Yeah, his body was definitely underdeveloped from the position switching in college. I think we'll see a different athlete next year assuming he puts in the work.

Given the amount of possessions the eagles had on offense it wasn't too bad.

The eagles were getting every ticky tac call from the refs also extending drives. After the first half it was just frustration showing up.

Coaching cost 14 of those points when the incompletion was not challenged and Josh Johnson was allowed to pass instead of just going ultra conservative when he came in. The fumble was on stupidity of trying to get the 4th string QB to run the two minute vs a 70 sacks team.

It definitely was not good but given the situation we could have been buried by 50 points. That would have been bad. The eagles had enough possessions to put up that much.

think after the injuries teh defense just gave up, they knew even if they stopped them all we could do on the offense end was just run every down. I thought they made enough plays today had we actually had a qb.

Nah. I'll grant you that right up until just prior to the 1st half 2 minute warning they were in it and doing well.

But they got smacked up really bad after that.

And if there attitude dropped as a group after offenseive problems then that is on the leadership of that group.

Personally I think they went after Bosa and got him out of the game and that was all she wrote.

Agreed. When I look at the Eagles defense and wonder how they got to the point of having 4 double digit sack guys, I look back at our 2019 D-line and realize we had a similar thing cooking had they stayed together. AA was a 10 sack guy. Buckner has been in the past and would've easily been more than once from 2020 to 2022 with those guys next to him. Dee Ford, if healthy, would've put up 10 sacks more than once from 2019 to 2022 with his pass rush win rate, and on limited snaps at that. And Bosa is Bosa. This really isn't a, we shoulda kept this person post, or knock against the front office, but more of a how did Philadelphia get there and how did it go down for us.

When I look at the Eagles, it was a perfect storm. First off, they signed a guy who you knew could be a dominant pass rusher and was played badly out of position in Arizona (Hassan Reddick). Then you have a guy that is extremely underpaid and outperforming his contract (Josh Sweat). Fletcher Cox has long been a top 5/10 DT and Brandon Graham, while he hasn't put up great sack numbers, he always was one of the best with his pass rush win rate. It really was a perfect storm.

To get back to that level, we aren't as far as it may seem because we have the most important piece- the game wrecker. We also have a guy that can dominate, even if it doesn't show up in the stat sheet AA. To get back there, a lot of this is going to be contingent on Drake Jackson taking the next step. It's encouraging that it was him wearing down at the end due to the long season (something that can be worked out) and not loss of confidence in his abilities or some other kind of setback that led to him being deactivated. He can work on that conditioning as well as hit the weight room in the offseason, and of course, work on being a better pass rusher. We also are going to need that dominant run stuffing presence and a player that can also rush from the DT position. I'm hoping we can find another Arden Key like sighting- someone that has been underused, misused, and/or badly coached around the league that we can sign and develop, similar to Key or Ebukam.

One guy that comes to mind is Clelin Ferrell. He was overdrafted, but a webzone favorite at the time of the draft and was thought of as a consolation prize if Bosa wasn't available. The report on him then was he wins his rushes, but can't finish- not enough bend or speed. Is this a guy that we could sign to a 2-year deal and put him in that Arden Key role, exclusively a 3rd down rusher? His value also has to be pretty low right now and if any coach can get anything out of his talent, it has to be Coach K.

We would be well served looking for 2 or 3 veterans that fit that mold and get them signed to some team friendly contracts, to protect us whether they don't work out or break out. With 11 picks, but limited cap space, we will have to be strategic. As far as our own vets are concerned, resigning Jordan Willis is a definite to me. Good solid rotational player that will likely be good for 3 to 5 sacks a year and then Charles Omenihu is my other. He can play inside or outside and seems like a guy that can explode with a little more talent around him, making him into a potentially dominant role player.

I'm really hoping we can find those three missing pieces- dominant run stuffer, second edge rusher opposite Bosa (8 sack guy), and great rusher from the interior. I think that will restore the luster of the D-line and give us a group that can dominant in stopping the run man for man as well as rushing the passer.
Need to build the DL up again to be dominant again - inside and outside. Inside force to pair with Armstead (missed Jones this year) and on the outside to bookend w/ Bosa.

good post. Ferrell is a guy they can kick the tires on but he's be more in the mold of replacing DJ Jones not Arden Key. Key was a pass rushing specialist that we used to beat guards. I don't think Ferrell has the speed or athleticism. I do agree with your premise just think Ferrell isn't the guy for that role. Kinlaw should be used for depth purposes only. Hopefully Jackson develops. But we need another guy who can line up and win a 1 v 1 and get to the qb.

Given where guys like Willis, Omenihu, and Ebukam were drafted, we could go to the well a couple times at edge and maybe we strike oil. But if we want a potential 6 to 8 sack guy to go with Drake, I think we will have to move up in the draft and even then, the pick may not bear the fruit we need in year 1.

I can't even count on Kinlaw. As for Ferrell, he doesn't have elite speed but figured Coach K can do something with him inside because he doesn't have the bend to beat guys from the edge.

With 11 picks, we may have to find Arden Key in the draft.
watching the line stunt as much as they did last year...I really think the line is one player away from a huge upswing. They just don't have a guy that eats up space in the middle. When you factor in the team will likely blitz more under Wilks, we need that guy that eats up a double team with out going backwards.

I hope they can get a low to the ground wide DT that can be an anchor when doubled.Does not have to be fast, don't need him to get sacks....he just has to be as un-movable as possible against the run and eat the center and a guard on passing downs.

Gilbert Brown....

I want the next coming of Gilbert Brown.

A'Shawn Robinson? They could also go to the well again and draft two DT that are more in that run stuffer role.
Our dline took a step back this year and it doesn't look like we're going to add any big free agency names to help. So unless our draft picks step up and produce, our dline might likely take another step back. Bosa played as the DPOY this year we won't know for sure if hes going to play like that again next year.

Ya we need some help in the middle. Hurts to say, but i don't think Kinlaw is going to be that guy.

We definitely need to invest in a DT that can do those things you mentioned.
