i tend to want to always give draft picks at least two season to get an idea of what they are. Development isn't always linear.

The tape showed more of the LBs not hitting the gaps

west and Collins taking on double teams nearly every play.

plus Morris likes to run a lot of 5 man fronts, setting up 1v1s

I disagree. He was mediocre as a pass rusher and the metrics agree. Setting the edge? Sure. But we could have found that from a 4th round guy.

The 11th overall pick needs to be a game changing pass rusher. Plain and simple. And he's no-where near that.

What's wild is a lot of you did the vice versa pulling out specific plays that Collins flashed but ignored how gawd awful he was the rest of the game/season last year Alfred is supposed to be an anchor that can hold his ground against doubles, that was not a double that was a chip and got blown back like 8 yards.

You double Bosa or Osa in the pass game, run game is a bit different. I believe once Mykel returns and have Fred/Dre roaming the middle our run defense will be solid

I actually think West is better than Alfred... he started slow this year due to injury / missing time last year and again this year. Collins may / may not ever come around, but I do hope at the very least, he can be serviceable coming off the bench

Let's say everyone is back and healthy (including Bosa)... Bosa, Osa, West and White. You're going to have a tough time blocking that unit for more than 1.5 seconds, even with RB and TE chipping. If Morris decides to blitz, good luck to other team. Our LBs are fast and/or smart (Warner, Law, Wallow or Dugger), teams won't have enough pass catchers out there. I expect the run D to look much different than what they showed at camp / preseason. Much batter.

Is Halton the only hope we have at this point?

Justin was also one of the most powerful edge players to ever play the game. He was simply stronger than every OT he faced. And he was relentless.

That inside counter stunt with Aldon Smith outside Cowboy was unstoppable. Cowboy would blow up two blockers and Aldon would come blazing in right up the middle. It was a thing of beauty but made possible because of Justin Smith.

That said, I don't think Mykel Williams will ever be half the power edge Justin Smith was

White was a far superior player to Mykel last year

And I said White would be an interior pass rusher in nickle. I never said anything about him fixing the run D

The cope in this thread is Godzilla size.

Keion is unproven and had his ankle shot in the offseason.

Bosa couldn't make it through training camp without a four week "load management" vacation.

Collins and West have a proven history of ineffectiveness, as rookies, and are dealing with injuries to boot.

Osa is a stud but he cant hold up the dam by himself.

We are putting a lot on Height Holton and Williams.

Two rookies and an acl recovery job who wont be able to put on strength until the next offseason.

Add in a shift to a new defensive scheme without quality in the safety room and this could get ugly.

If we roll snake eyes with injuries I am looking at a historic defensive season unlike any other that has been seen in the NFL since the age of parity began. Think the last two Seattle games multiplied by 16

I don't agree with this at all. White was rarely all that effective. Mykel showed significantly more as a raw rookie.
