He did with regards to stopping the run setting the edge and rushing from the interior.

I disagree. He was mediocre as a pass rusher and the metrics agree. Setting the edge? Sure. But we could have found that from a 4th round guy.

The 11th overall pick needs to be a game changing pass rusher. Plain and simple. And he's no-where near that.

Let's give him more than half a season and see where he lands.

Our run D was actually vastly better when CJ West played nose. Like almost a full YPC better when he was in. I'm not worried about him. He has proven to be very stout vs the run.

Collins on the other hand has shown nothing and graded out poorly last year. He won't be a starter. That's reserved for Osa and West. Halton will probably replace West in nickle too eventually leaving Collins as a backup NT.

Sure. But it probably won't be this year with him coming off that ACL

He was anything but stout yesterday

One bad game (and not even a game, a few drives) doesn't write the book on him just like if Collins had 3 good drives it doesn't invalidate the trash he's put on film.

West was decent last year and I expect that at minimum this year. Collins though.... Yikes.

Not writing anyone off. Just the tape is the tape.

i tend to want to always give draft picks at least two season to get an idea of what they are. Development isn't always linear.

Mykel was drafted as a run stuffer with hopes of becoming a viable pass rusher. So long as he becomes a run stuffer that can apply some pressure that's a win in my book. Mykel is not your speed edge rusher, people need to stop expecting that

Justin Smith wasnt one.

I was going to mention Justin and Armstead as examples but I'm not sure if they are exactly good comparisons to Mykel

Justin is. His game was never speed rushing.

I'm writing collins off. It would be one of the most shocking developments in recent niners history if he were to turn out decent. He's shown basically zero so far.

Cj West I don't think is great but he was ok last year and what is expect from a 4th rounder

Believe it or not, Justin was a big-time speed rusher coming out of college as a 260-pound edge rusher.

The dude ran a blazing 4.6 40 at the combine.

Absolutely, it's wild AF!

I really don't give a crap if he half azzed that play or didn't look all world... he's still got two fools on his jock. Who the F'k gonna double team Osa or Bosa. Teams won't have enough O line / blocking. Our starting linebackers gonna fill in those holes before they develop

We in here talking bout a practice game, not a real game not a game, we talkin bout practice

What's wild is a lot of you did the vice versa pulling out specific plays that Collins flashed but ignored how gawd awful he was the rest of the game/season last year Alfred is supposed to be an anchor that can hold his ground against doubles, that was not a double that was a chip and got blown back like 8 yards.

You double Bosa or Osa in the pass game, run game is a bit different. I believe once Mykel returns and have Fred/Dre roaming the middle our run defense will be solid
