Ryan Delaire earns opportunity to rush the passer

SANTA CLARA – The 49ers will have a new edge rusher on the field Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Defensive end Ryan Delaire, whom the 49ers promoted Saturday from the practice squad, is expected to see immediate action as the team looks for other options from its outside pass rush.

Delaire has been impressive during practices recently, winning the team's defensive scout-team player of the week in back-to-back weeks. Delaire, similar to cornerback Greg Mabin, impressed the coaching staff with his play in practice to earn playing time.

The decision was made to see if Delaire can provide fresh legs and an upgrade for the team's outside pass rush.

Delaire, 26, a third-year player from Towson, played 15 games for the Carolina Panthers in 2015 and '16 and recorded 3.5 sacks. Delaire (6 foot 4, 260 pounds) spent training camp this summer with Indianapolis before the 49ers signed him to their practice squad on Sept. 26.

Delaire recorded two sacks against the 49ers in a Week 3 game during the preseason on Aug. 25. He was among the Colts' final cuts before the start of the regular season.
The 49ers have experienced difficulty finding consistency with their pass rush. Through four games, DeForest Buckner leads the 49ers with 3.5 sacks. The rest of the defense combined has 4.5 sacks.

All indications are that the 49ers will likely deactivate an interior defensive lineman to make room for Delaire on the active 46-man roster to play on Sunday.

On Saturday, the 49ers also activated wide receiver Victor Bolden from the exempted list in a move that likely means Marquise Goodwin will not suit up due to hamstring and thigh injuries. Bolden returns from a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Who should they have spent a truckload of money on????
No one worthy has been available, why jump the shark 2 years into a complete rebuild when '19 has always been the best looking draft and FA classes.

Yep. Help's a coming. One way or another.

do you guys actually have confidence even IF we get someone decent in that area. and i question the ability of lynch and kyle on evaluation of this spot..... they can thrive under the dc and asst coaches we have?

Yes.

Not sure how you can question their ability to evaluate. Next spring will show if they can evaluate. We will see who the dc is then.

He got about 10 snaps and didn't have any pressures... not that far along from MarshMallow
Why would you put him out there with Marsh being so utterly dominant? You don't just bust out spin kicks for any old performance.
