Frank was too much of a do what the coach says. He wasn't really a guy who would group the players up and say f**k this s**t, the play is this but let's tweak it one more yard to the right.

See how Jimmy G told Trent Taylor to make minor adjustments in his route in certain situations? Frank didn't do that.

This team as perfect imo, the only thing we were missing was a little bit more speed on all three phases on the game. We had Kaep and Vernon on offense who were fast but we needed a true burner at receiver or offense. Defense I wish we had someone besides Willis with speed, maybe an edge rusher or safety we could drop down and have blitz. Our special teams would have been Godly if we had a guy like Devin Hester.

Facts. Frank was a great locker room leader but not the type of guy to step in and adjust the game plan. Pretty much the entire team was like that, "do what coach says" win/lose/ or draw. At that time we were winning a lot so there wasn't much to doubt. That's not including all the fluke plays and bad calls from the refs that plagued us.

It was boring. We have one good quarter and stink the other 3 most of the time. Then we would armchair QB about why Alex or Colin went MIA for 3 quarters in our run-run-pass Greg Roman offense. We would get 3 or 5 turnovers and still only win by one score. How many times did we score over 30?

If felt good to win games every week, knowing we could beat any team in the league is nice. People get too critical

disagree.. there were many times. when roman went off script. passed the ball and went away from a good run game. there were many times well documented. gore went to jh about it. you asked who the leader was. i said frank was. people may not like it. but alex was a good leader and so was boldin. i had issues with jh but to trash the success or poo pooh the success we had just cuz you like lynch and kyle better is dumb. it also hints at arrogance to. people forgot what we were before then

The fact that we couldn't blow out a s**tty Ravens team scoring 34 points is a joke. We had Bow, Pat, Aldon and Cowboy on defense and couldn't do s**t because the D was beat up because Harbs/Fangio didn't believe in subbing out vets to keep them fresh.

The offense was gimmicky as hell and the front office was a mess bolted together by the fact that we were somehow winning. Like John Madden said, winning is the best deodorant for a funky locker room. Well our locker room and front office was a steaming pile of elephant s**t. Once the winning stopped, the smell was unbearable. The low point of the season was win we got blown out at home on Thanksgiving of 2014 with the opponents eating our turkey.

This Shanny-led team feels much more organic. Brick by brick was the correct mantra. This team would be built from the ground up in the image of its coach and GM. We have a QB and offense that can't be "figured out". Opposing defenses will have to "b*****dize their playbook" as one opposing coach said. This is how you build sustainable success. I was a bandwagoner during the Harbs days. I basically abandoned the team (and football in general) after 2000 and missed out on the decade of suck. But I think I pretty much earned back my fandom cheering for the Tomsula and Chip teams.

Time will tell if Shanahan will be the right guy for the job. He'll always have Super Bowl LI hanging over his head until he wins the big one. I agree with your points about 2011-13. Losing to the Ravens in the way we lost is on the coaches for not making adjustments and rotating personnel. Also, not having the team prepared for the game has to be looked at, as well.

Keep in mind, Harbaugh was a rookie super bowl coach (so was his brother, I know) but his brother had more smarts than him. I think Harbaugh's offensive scheme doesn't leave a lot of flexibility specially if the other team stuffs the run. As for Shanahan, potentially, I think he can become a better coach than Bill Belicheat. Bill didn't get a head coaching job until he was 39-ish, and Kyle got his head coaching gig at the age of 37. Both got their franchise QB early in their coaching career. The advantage Kyle has is I think he's a better OC than Bill, and I think where Kyle is less strong is on the defensive side. But it's supposedly easier to coach the defensive side though. But I have high hopes for Kyle, this guy - if he continues to grow and develop his defensive side, the sky is the limit.

2013? colts game. we ran the ball nicely in the first half. roman went away from it in the second half and we lost a miserable game. it was well documented gore went to jh that week. we came out against whoever it was and ran the ball down their throats so i strongly disagree about frank not being a leader and a yes man for jh

It's still amazing to me that Shanahan gets the blame for that loss while Dan Quinn and DC Richard Smith get none. Goes to show who the public thinks was the real coaching mastermind behind their success. Give it another 10 years and I bet half of casual NFL fans will believe Shanahan was the head coach of the 2016 Falcons and got fired for losing the SB.
