Another coach who runs the entire offense. McCarthy turned over playcalling briefly to Tom Clements, who sucked balls at it and then McCarthy quickly snatched it back.
There's a lot more, too. Bruce Arians, Sean Payton, Andy Reid, Jay Gruden, Bill O'Brien etc.

It is funny that you have 49ers fans that are like "s**t, I don't know how a HC can call the offense and run the team at the same time" when you consider all the connections to SB winning coaches that all called their own plays while winning titles.

I swear this forum takes the cake for overreaction

Maybe we should label the waterboy as the OC because that's basically what's gonna happen when you're an OC for an offensive minded head coach. Let the man work. Your expectations are too high for a sub par oline and Brian Hoyer at QB. Let the man build.

Shanahan isn't giving up playcalling responsibilities, nor should he. If he brought in an OC, it would be like how most other HC's who call their own offenses have OC's, guys that largely focus on developing gameplans for the run game. Much like how Chip had Modkins as his OC. Shanahan has his helpers as well.

I don't see it being some major issue. You hire a guy like Shanahan because you want him running your team, but in particular the offense.

Bingo.

Everyone is going crazy with overreactions. Let Shanahan get more comfortable in the role over time. He'll get the balance right, and frankly, aside from the one instance where he wanted the time out I don't even think it was an issue in the game, personally.

He's doing fine, let him do both jobs.
Worthless post. When does this insipid BS ever end?

Totally this. I don't see another guy coming in and calling plays. Shanny has always done that

There's a rythm to play calling and even if he does bring someone else in, the only other guy I'd think he would trust is his dad.
Bump!
