This is the other play where Hyde failed on pass pro (2nd Q).

vs Cover1 blitz

IND will pattern match the trips bunch. At the snap, Hyde steps to his right then quickly realizes that a LB is blitzing the B gap. Hyde will try to get back, but it's too late.

Hoyer has to throw hot, to Kittle's drag. If Hyde was in position to impede the free blitzer, Garcon's Dig is about to develop and the middle of the field is wide open because of Cover1 blitz.

The safety on Kittle can attack downhill and easily stops Kittle. One more split second and Garcon is free, past the first down marker. Punt.

Indy had a penalty down in the RZ and then we held up well on the next 2 plays holding them to 5 yards. So, it's 3rd and 15 from the 17 yard line. What does Saleh do? he backs everyone up to the 1st down marker. This is playing not to lose, not playing to win. He did this 3 times in this game and I feel like it might have cost us the win.

Side note, this was one of the 2 series in which Bow was off the field that I saw and we gave up 10 points in those 2 series alone. He makes a difference on the field.

Indy motions a receiver across and Williams, Tartt and Jerome all seem a little confused at the snap trying to get in the correct position - why y'all moving around? It's 3rd and 15 and all of you are at the line to gain.....don't make no sense to me.

Here's what I hate about lining everyone up that deep from the get go. All they do is run a simple dive play. Indy is playing for the FG for friggin good greif sake....

Yet, because our guys are all so deep by the time they hand the ball off we don't have anyone other than our 4 lineman within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.

Because our guys are so far off the line it's created huge holes to fill as both our DT's get doubled. So, with huge holes everyone tries to fill them because they're so far away no one knows who's gap is who's.

Because of the huge hole everyone tried to fill inside and it left only RR outside the hash... Mack stops and heads outside....uh oh's....

all those guys trying to fill inside....not good, people....not good....

well....shoot.....

Then all those guys got to do is get him on the ground before the 2 yard line....how does he stiff arm 2 of our guys????!!!!???

If this is a FG instead, we win this game......

This was by far the worst play of the game, maybe the season. Hopefully Saleh learns from this and doesn't play this "conservatively" again.

jonny, thl - I am humbled by your football knowledge and willingness to take the time to do all of this. It's much appreciated.

Pressure that guy to make quick decisions. Force his hand. On the 3rd & 2 play, he completed a simple pass right over the middle in front of the Hook defenders. As simple as simple gets. That was way too easy.

Yup and Ray Ray played way too conservatively too. He backed off instead of playing it like man-coverage. To me, 3rd and short you play that zone like a matching-man coverage. First guy and route in your zone you jump on it.

This has me losing my mind with Ray Ray. Almost every time he's in zone he's covering grass. Zone is an "area" to start, but once there's a nearby threat it basically becomes man. His zone/man reaction is atrocious.

Almost 91 yards to the house.

end of 3Q. I noticed this play live and wanted to check it out. How an offense uses it's RBs in the passing game is notable characteristic for an offense. Are they running vertical routes (Chip), option routes, mostly check/releasing (Roman)? Kyle has been using them on quick throws to short middle or quick to the flats. Kyle splitting his RB out wide and taking the matchup.

Brieda is lined up wide with a LB - man coverage. Pick play with Taylor.

Spread the field horizontally via formation. Isolate the favorable 1v1. Breida has some quickness to use out wide.

First down. Drive led to FG.

That's two games in a row Goodwin has come down with a pass into double coverage. Goodwin stems outside before breaking back inside.
vs Cover6

With no other route to hold the Quarters safety, he's bracketed.

Hoyer dgaf

That's what is frustrating. I don't think there's a 'top 3'. It's more like "top 10" haha.

If I had a gun to my head and had to call out 3 I'd say it's: Hoyer, Ward, Robinson. But it's almost like a 9 way tie for 2nd....

So does Ward need replacing? I know everybody wanted to see him at his "natural" position but this won't work with a hole at FS.

Here's that first TD where Tartt will help Mack. Each starting DB seemed to have a moment where they underestimated Mack the RB.

Tartt pushes DeFo in the back and helps cave in the edge.

Ward make the tackle?

The big run in OT.

RR follows the jet sweep, probably because it's man coverage. So who has the edge?

Who is chasing who? Mack got another 20 yards because of this.

I think edge contain is on AA. If an edge defender can't contain, then at least make the RB go horizontal. Mack bounces it looking like prime Shady McCoy.

Nice play call by the Colts....we should steal that play.....should have only been a 16-20 yard gain if Ward doesnt totally blow that play....
WTF was Ward thinking there...

Lynch's effort on this play is quite disappointing too. Presumably he's the one with the edge responsibility, and he doesn't even attempt to give chase. He leaves the frame from this angle after the block from 47, but on the other angle you can see him just walking back across the field. I know he never would have caught Mack, but it would be nice to at least see him try.

That's what's so maddening about Hoyer. He'll drop this some then miss 5 throws by a mile.

Ward missed some tackles, but actually believe this was # 26 Jerome. I recall rewinding this one live to see who absolutely blew this tackle.

We totally underestimated Mack's speed in this game.
