It's very hard to judge the defense right now. All we know is that the 49ers backups are playing like backups. The defense was missing the following players along the d-line yesterday: Bosa, Williams, Collins, Gross-Matos. They were also missing Warner. The backups played like backups. Bigger concerns would be that CJ West and Nick Martin can't get on the field. Stout looks like he could be a reserve player for us in the future, Sigle looks like he'll eventually be released. This defense still needs depth at LB and in the secondary. Renardo Green is a good cover guy but I always see him out of position, is he dumb or something? It's almost like he'd be most effective if they just told him to go follow that WR and leave the thinking to everyone else.

They should start making changes to the Safety position again. Pick up free agents like Justin Simmons and DeMarcus Walker. Get some damn veterans in here basically to help the young guys on the field.

They won't; you know it; I know it. The team needs a new (strong) GM.

Firing Lynch will have little impact i suspect he has minimal input in player personnel and drafting we all know Kyle has all the power and until that power is taken away or 49ers hire a proper GM they will continue to reach for positions instead of value.

No Bosa, Williams, YGM, Collins and this is what we are left with.
Lowest-graded 49ers: Defense
It's insane that we spent a 3rd round pick on Nick Martin and he can't get on the field over Luke Gifford who gets destroyed every game.
Not one of those guys should be brought back next year if we want to contend. They aren't even capable backups.
Lowest-graded 49ers: Defense
- CJ West, DT, 28.4, 29 snaps
- Jordan Elliott, DT, 28.7, 38 snaps
- Luke Gifford, LOLB, 28.9, 26 snaps
- Kevin Givens, DT, 42.6, 28 snaps
- Clelin Ferrell, DE, 44.5, 24 snaps

Something I've thought about all along when it comes to the team drafting players.
Lynch has said multiple times, "Kyle controls who is on the 53." Would make sense that one who decides on the 53 would be the one who has the most influence on draft decisions to get such talent onto the 53.

Defensive tackle (5)
Jordan Elliot
Kevin Givens
Kalia Davis
Alfred Collins - base down DT
CJ West - backup
Defensive end (4)
Nick Bosa
Bryce Huff / Sam Okuayinonu
Mykel Williams / Keion White
Robert Beal
Linebacker (5)
Fred Warner
Tatum Bethune
Dee Winters- backup
Nick Martin - practice squad
Luke Gifford - Special teams only
Curtis Robinson
Cornerback (5)
Deommodore Lenoir
Reynardo Green - backup
Upton Stout - backup
Chase Lucas- Practice squad
Darrell Luter Jr.- Practice squad
Safety (5)
Malik Mustapha- backup / big nickle LB
Ji'Ayir Brown
Marques Sigle- Practice squad
Jason Pinnock
Siran Neal - Special teams only
Lynch has some work to do. He needs at least one pure 3T. One of Mykel Williams or Keion White can slide inside in nickle. If Bosa isn't ready for camp a top DE is a big need.
LBers should be Ok with Warner and Bethune. Winters is a good backup.
We desperately need a FS and have for years now. Brown and Mustapha cannot be on the field together and both are probably better as backups.
Needs:
1- 3T
2- FS
3- CB
4- SS
5- DE?
Jordan Elliot

Crazy s**t is look at all the resources they are throwing at the d line with nothing to show. Just two seasons ago they spent a ton on Hargrave. They they brought in Elliot, Collins, and Matos. This year they draft Collins and West this year and sign Huff. That's a lot of resources on one group that's still not up to par. No developing pass rushers on the roster

Les Snead traded all his picks, won a SB, and rebuilt the entire team into a powerhouse in 2025.
Oh yea, the Rams have two first round picks in 2026 including a top 10 pick from Atlanta as it stands...

He rebuilt his d line and hit on a wr. It's a flawed roster propped up by a top qb and d line.

It's been a pretty remarkable turn around for Les Snead. He was considered one the worst GMs in the NFL and on the brink of being fired until they brought in Sean McVay.

So that's a flawed roster? Having a top QB who is playing like an MVP, a top 5 WR, a fantastic D line is nothing? Oh yea, this is on the heels of a SB win in 2021-22. They also have 2 good young RBs, 3 good TEs, a decent O line and a playmaker at safety.
They are a good team with a good roster.
And like I said, they are getting better - they have 2 first round picks next year.
